Voltron at NYCC

NYCC12 - Voltron Display

Pretty boring. I guess now that everything will be out in a few days they have no reason to care about it anymore.

VictoryLiger 10-11-2012 06:16 PM

Could you put the watermarks somewhere else instead of across the figures' faces?

Crazy Jetty 10-12-2012 06:56 PM

The automorph gimmick killed these for me. Way too boxy. I'd have rather seen them more streamlined, and greater articulation on the lions.
Sadly, I had more interest in the defunct Voltron Force toys.

That... kinda defeats the purpose for the watermarks. :p :D

Dr Kain 10-12-2012 10:14 PM

More streamlined? They look exactly the way they do in the anime, which is what makes them far superior to any other versions from a design aspect. I do agree about the articulation and spring gimmick. As for VForce, no thanks. The show was a travesty and an insult to the Voltron brand.

Meh. Your opinion.

Nothing new?

We've been looking at these things for what.....a year and a half now?

They are done with Voltron at this point. There will never be anything new. Mattel only took the license in the hopes that WEP gets a movie out so they can merchandise the crap out of it.

trowa195 10-13-2012 08:26 AM

The quality of the actual product is crap. The paint sucks and the lions are really cheap. Way over priced for what you get. I spent a lot of money on the subscription and am pretty dissapointed. Other matty stuff is pretty good, these are close to knock off dollar store transformers. It could have been so much better. Maybe custom paint is in order.

I do agree with this, but for me, I only got the sub for the pilots. It wasn't until Blue Lion came out that I realized how cool the lions were because they were anime accurate and their size. Unlike Toynami's release, their legs do not feel like they are going to fall off just by looking at them wrong.

trowa195 10-13-2012 08:44 AM

Lance was good then it all went down hill for me. The Pidge I got is really bad. Still waiting on Keith and the black lion, hopefully it looks okay.

I don't like Pidge's glasses and the small neck on Hunk, but Alura and Sven look awesome. Plus, they are the best incarnations of these characters we will ever get. I just wished Mattel would release a Lotor/Zarkon/Hagar 3 pack since I need my villains.

Is there anything you actually *do* like? You've turned every thread I've seen all weekend into a solid bitchfest, bitching and moaning about how godaweful everything is, and trashing things others are pretty pleased with.
We get it. You hate stuff. Lighten up, bro. Just because you don't like or know who captain marvel jr is, doesn't mean his fans shouldn't be allowed to have him after wanting him so badly for years.
Just because you hated Voltron Force doesn't mean other fans feel it's a travesty. That's a slap in the face to everyone.

So state your opinions, but stop your nerdraging. And that's what it's boiled down to. Just your nerd rage BS.

When you settle down, you have interesting things to say and I like you, so I really don't want to put you on ignore, but I'm pretty much done with seeing you repeatingly spamming threads multiple times just to bitch incesently about the same thing.

Snowflakian 10-13-2012 02:45 PM

Meh, no Voltron Force 6'' voltron means I'm not bothering. I have no desire for the classic voltron, and I prefer the redesigned versions anyway for more variety.
Makes me wish I picked up the 6'' stealth voltron figure way back when. Oh well.

You must be watching some bootleg because the Mattel Voltron toy does not look like the anime. It looks like it derives more inspiration from the giant Trendmasters Voltron if anything. The lions weren't very boxy in the cartoon they looked more rounded and proportionate, their silhouettes were like lean lions with the exception of the black lion which was bigger. NO toy matches the anime look of Voltron/Golion, not even the Popy DX nor Toynami MPC. The closest we will ever get to an anime accurate Voltron/Golion is if Tamashii decides to make an SOC or SRC.

The automorph, like Crazy Jetty mentioned, killed this for me too. I would have preferred more proportionate lions with articulated legs, so that the lions could be posed a lot more. Instead it is obvious that Mattel was aiming to prioritize the combined mode.

Um, did you not see my praise for Bluefin's Figuarts displays? I absolutely loved those, especially the TyrannoRanger reveal. I am also impressed with the NA He-Man and the fact that they showed us Huntress, but again, Bluefin was the highlight of NYCC.

And using it to obscure the figure defeats the purpose of posting a picture.

The purpose of a watermark is to prevent people from stealing an image and taking credit for it. If you take the watermark off the part of the picture you're trying to protect, then you may as well not have it at all.

That's how watermarks work. It's unfortunate, but nessisary.

I know what a watermark is and its purpose. The point I'm making is that from the sites I've seen covering NYCC, the Toyark "family" is the only one that decided to put their watermark right through the middle of the picture. This results in the picture being obscured. Toyark and its affiliated sites are the ones I go to for most of my news on events like NYCC. I haven't done so this time around because the watermark more often than not has hidden details that I want to see. Again, the issue is not that there is a watermark, but where they have chosen to place it.

Crazy Jetty 10-14-2012 12:30 PM

I don't particularly see your problem, they're not distracting, and they're not really intrusive, either.
