Macross VF-25 DVDs

I know almost nothing about Macross/RoboTech. But, I have been aware of them for a while and looking at a few of Peaughs YouTube videos has got me interested (I really want a 1/60 Luca now!).

Anyhow, I am in the UK, and I thought that I would pick up a dvd set to watch, to see if I really got into it.... And there is the problem. There seems to be a huge range, some not available in UK format (not a problem as I have a multi-region player, but still....) and I have no idea what would be a good introduction.

For example, I have found this:

Macross Plus - The Ultimate Edition [DVD] [1994]: Amazon.co.uk: Shoji Kawamori: DVD

And it seems the best place to start that I could find. I am really looking for a suggestion of what to get for the first couple of purchases on dvd, which will give me a good introduction to the series and background.

Thanks in advance.

macross plus is my favorite anime of all time. i love the story, the mecha, characters...everything. i even have all of the yamato 1/60th scale toys.

mac plus is very accessible. especially for a western audience. the dvd you found is good but that version is japanese language with english sub titles. if you like that kind of thing then that version is great. however the version i have was released in 2004 (i think) for mac plus' 10th anniversary and has both the ova and movie versions. the movie is condensed but has a few minutes of additional material to better flesh out certain aspects of the story. i would recommend that. and it's dubbed. the voice actors are quite good.

if you like peaugh's reviews, want the 1/60 dx luca (made by bandai), and want to see that fighter on screen then look to macross frontier. it's the newest anime in the macross universe. hope this helps.
