Non-collector needs advice

As the title states, I am not a toy collector. When I was a kid I had, and kept, the complete original Thundercats set. I don't even remember all their names but I know I have ALL the original characters from year one. There was a couple extras release later when I had just slipped past the age where it was acceptable to play with action figures. :-) Anyway, I have all the originals, the Thunder Tank, the Cat's lair, the mail away mummy mumra, The flying machine for Vulture man, etc. All of it is loose and not in box, though I still have all of this in the cats lair box. I saved all of these always with the intention of passing them to my kids if I ever had any. I now have two and the youngest is old enough to play with them without chewing on their heads or anything. Was about to dig them out of the attic when I saw "Toy Hunter" on tv and now Im wondering if they're worth anything. I doubt it, but I checked ebay and was further confused. Some people are selling loose figurines at like $40 a piece while others are selling them for $4. I'm not in it for profit, and unless I can get like $300 or $400 for the set I'm just giving it to them. Any idea where I can get them valued? I can post pictures if it helps.

If you put everything you said in one lot you should have no problem getting 300-400 for it. I haven't been actively watching Thundercats auctions but I do know that people bid often for complete cat's lair. Good luck, I'd love to see a pick of it all.

Condition & completeness are everything. The ones that go for more than a few bucks are in excellent condition and 100% complete with weapons. In most cases, the weapons are equally as valuable as the figures themselves, with a few exceptions. Pictures always help, plus I'd love to see the collection.

agreed with both. weapons and condition are what will get you a good price. could you post a pic? this would help and i too want to see them all...

Ok, I dug them out and took some pics. Here's the update after seeing them for the first time in probably 15 years or more...

Overall condition is very good, especially considering these were actually played with, not just saved on a shelf. There is that kind of wear and tear, like from putting helmets and weapons on and off and rubbing off the paint. I included a few pics of that type of damage. But they all work. I did not put batteries into the electronic stuff or assemble the Cats Lair, but I found a baggie with all the screws so Im sure it will not be a problem. The battery compartment for the Cats Head on the Lair shows battery corrosion. The contacts are green and powdery. Otherwise it seems intact and operational. The Battle tank has one tread torn, but I knew that. I suppose one could find a replacement out there. And I seem to have every weapon for every figurine except for the black sword for mumra and the little battery thing that lit up his eyes.

Here's the pictures...

So, all that considered, what do you guys think the set is worth AS-IS?

DHeezy81 10-29-2012 03:40 PM

If you got the lair set up and it was 100% complete. I don't see why that lot wouldn't sell for $250+. Just as-is, I can see it still fetching 200-250. If it wasn't so close to Xmas, I'd make an offer on it.

If they are complete and in good condition, they are definitely worth something. If you choose to sell them, there are a couple of ways to do it. You could post it all on ebay in one lot and sell it all at once, you could do it individually, or you could post them on sites like this. In my opinion, I think if you choose to sell, you are better off, and may get more money, if you sell them individually on this site and our Thundercats sister site.

Yes show us pictures please! Thundercats from the 80s are the best! But seriously having the parts makes all the difference.

The pictures are at the link up above if you want to look. My second post in this thread.

Thanks for all the advice

I probably am going to sell them. Honestly, I think it would simply be a shame to hand them to my kids who wouldn't appreciate the history of them. I just have to decide now if I do it as one lot or individually. I'm new at this, so I'm going to do a bit more research to figure that out and for how much. Though I'm open to offers. :-)
