Marvel Universe Ultimate Spiderman is .....
....actually kind of cool! Over the weekend I found the Marvel Universe Ultimate Spiderman. The regular one, not the Miles Morales version. I was reading up on this figure and for a version of Spidey that is a teen and not an adult, this figure works very well. There are no thigh swivels, no rocker ankles, no scribed lines, all of which I usually think ought to be on a Spiderman figure at this point.
However the hip articulation is actually great on this figure. Wide range of motion and it can pose doing an axe kick. Flying sidekick poses are easy to replicate too. Dug the webbed backpack that was once with HOM Spiderman(which I passed on because it was a repaint yet again of the Symbiote Spidey body). The sculpt overall is one of the better ones Hasbro has produced. Paint could be better. Overall I questioned why the hell this figure was even being made when it was revealed but I figure Hasbro was going to kill 2 birds with 1 stone because they were going to make a Miles Morales figure. In fact, I have a feeling Miles was planned 1st and this Peter Parker version was made as a matter of convenience. Speaking of which, for Miles Morales, this seems like a more accurate figure than the Walmart Studio Series 6" figure because it is a lot less muscular, and smaller in stature. This is one of those rare instances where a Marvel Universe figure surpasses its Legends-scale counterpart. Other MU figures that have done this are World War Hulk, and Adam Warlock(holy crap the Legends figure of that guy is bad). So color me surprised, I actually like this figure. Hope the Miles Morales version becomes easier to find. The Toys R Us I found this figure at did not stock the Kraven/ASX Beast/Beta Ray Bill wave for what seemed like eons, they just got it in last Saturday. In fact, I have not seen that wave at all in my area until last Saturday. This is one of the better waves I have seen this year. |
Yeah, it's a great figure and fits right into my Ultimate line-up.

The only thing I have against this figure is that it will likely delay my getting a classic Red/Blue Spidey on the new DD/Bullseye/Punisher body.
Otherwise, it does kind of rock. |
I agree, I was totally prepared to hate this figure...but he is actually really an awesome little figure with some nice poseability to boot. :)
I agree with uberlad though, I still really want a red and blue spidey on the new DD buck (despite the argument I've heard that Spidey isn't that buff). |
