1960's Batman Toy Line Quietly Announced

Mattel 1960's Batman Toy Line Confirmed

trebleshot 12-21-2012 06:40 AM

[Insert "Holy ____, Batman!" joke here]

Really curious about the details for this line. Hopefully, we'll get more info in the next few months. I'd really like to see 3.75" figures, but since this is Mattel I'll be fine with 6" figures. I just hope it's not going to get wrapped up in one of their subscriptions.

BAD MOON 12-21-2012 08:29 AM

I just want Cesar Romero's Joker with painted over mustache!

trebleshot 12-21-2012 08:53 AM

You and me both.

Joe Moore 12-21-2012 09:31 AM

Depending on size and how they look, I could see myself buying a few of these. Especially if they are going full out with the likenesses. Would love a Burgess Meredith Penguin as well as the Caesar Romero Joker.

mj3141x 12-21-2012 09:34 AM

I would definitely be interested in these if they're 3 3/4-inch!

Dr Kain 12-21-2012 12:16 PM

We already got Adam West Batman though...

Julie Newmar Catwoman is high on my wish list too. A Vincent Price Egghead would be cool as well. I wonder if they'll be done in the classic format. Trying to picture how that would translate.

Ninjinister 12-21-2012 12:54 PM

Mattel, I will love you if there's 3.75 figures. I don't care how much articulation there is. I just want them so bad.

Especially an Eartha Kitt Catwoman. Me-OW!

Edge2k 12-21-2012 04:21 PM

I'm glad to see info slowly trickle out for this. I can't wait for these figs.

The red Bat-phone rang during the Mattel/DC panel at SDCC this year and the line was announced. A photo of the Adam West figure was shown for about a second. They said the line would be Movie Master style/size and be available at retail. That's all the info they were able to give. Mattel has to apparently wait to share more as Warner has big plans for the brand and will supposedly make some sort of huge announcement.

Dark Hayabusa 12-22-2012 07:00 AM

will these be figures like the DCUC or Mego style?

snake5289 12-22-2012 11:06 AM

Hopefully DCUC. I'd love to add Penguin to my setup.

ToyAddict 12-23-2012 06:28 AM

I can't see how this WON'T be subscription. I guess they could put it in Batman Unlimited if they want. But how well is this going to do at retail? How relevant to today's society is a 50-year-old TV show? I would think this would fit an even smaller niche market that DCUC did, and that had to go subscription.

Solrac333 12-28-2012 09:54 AM

I want an Adam We action figure!

Complete series released on DVD/Blu Ray for the first time....

kenm2474 12-28-2012 09:08 PM

The style that this is being made after is very non DCUC. More Comic(Funny) not serious. I would have no place for these guys as they would look real out of place in my collection.

hrothgars 12-29-2012 01:51 AM

you've seen pics?

I'm not sure I see your reasoning. Wave 16 Riddler is basically Frank Gorshin. The Wave 1 Penguin mold would easily resemble Burgess Merideth too with a black/purple paint job. The Batman Legacy Batman that came with Bat-Mite is close to Adam West, but would need a different belt buckle & cape. A Burt Ward Robin wouldn't need any changes from Wave 16 Robin, save for a slightly retooled hairstyle.

Like it or not, a lot of the modern Batman mythos stems from the 1960's teevee vein, just as the teevee show reproduces costumes & the look of the Golden Age. Each just moves the franchise forward for a contemporary audience.

I'm gonna wait at least until we know what scale the figures will be and hopefully see a pic before I write these off.

I would love an Alan Napier Alfred. I would definitely buy a Caesar Romero Joker figure, even if it was bad.

snake5289 12-29-2012 02:47 PM

Oh forgot about Alfred. I'd definitely buy one if it's in scale with DCUC.

You really can't say that for certain. I grew up with the show as well (although it was the first round of re-runs for me), but that only tells me of the tone of the show (i.e. full of 60's camp and surrealism). It doesn't automatically mean the figures will follow that same theme.

But based on what Edge2K posted above, the line will be Movie Masters-style. So it looks like they will be faithful to the show and the actor likenesses. I personally hope this is the case, per my wish list earlier in the thread.

Btw, just want to point out that there have been several "comedic" figures released in DCUC. Most people call them the Super Friends. ;)

I wouldn't call it a Batman TV Series line if all they end up doing is just matching the costumes in DCUC. At that point, they might as well just be doing Golden Age figures. For me, they need to have the actor likenesses (including body types) to pull off a true TV series-based line.

snake5289 12-31-2012 12:18 PM

I hope they will be MM style because that just means Penguin (and maybe Alfred???) should fit in my collection just fine. I'll probably get an Adam We Bats and a Joker too though but they'll stay in package.
