they look super awesome. i really can't wait.

i still say we better get at least shredder. i'd also like krang with his android body... but that's unlikely.

OMG!!! They look awesome... looks like I maybe getting classics now.

Moved to its own thread as awesome news like this shouldn't be hidden in a long thread. :D Thanks for posting.

Crazy Jetty 01-30-2013 02:06 PM

Bebop suffers the same aweful head syndrom the turtles do, but Rocksteady looks pretty damned cool.
Maybe it's just the angle of the picture not being very flattering. At least it doesn't look derpy, like theirs.

Much happier with these two than the turtles.

Optimus Neeson 01-30-2013 02:27 PM

These are not bad by any means, but the aesthetic of the cartoon does nothing for me. I'm holding out for the live-action figures.
C'mon Playmates!!!!
I'm planning a B&E (bacon & egg) for Playmates HQ (hindquarters) to see if they've got any live-action prototypes. I'll be Twitterbooking my finds in case the cops catch me.

ludovicotek 01-30-2013 02:47 PM

Wow. These look great! And a good size compared to the turtles. These two may come in around 7-8" tall. Very nice.

Iceman 01-30-2013 02:48 PM

Will these guys be appearing in the new show at all? I haven't seen any of it.

Doubtful. I don't think they've shown up in any cartoon beyond the one from the 80s. Every new cartoon introduces a new wave of mutants, leaving very little room for Bebop and Rocksteady. So far, they have not shown up; I've seen every episode that has aired.
They are, however, in the new IDW comic book.

Paxtin 01-30-2013 03:04 PM

They're a little less toon accurate then the Turtles, but still pretty cool looking.

Bebop is kinda fugly looking, but then again he's a warthog, so...It works.
Would be nice to see him from another angle, though.

MegaPrime33 01-30-2013 03:52 PM

I feel like I've been using this image a lot lately....

If these two ever showed up in the new show... I think Bebop would need a heeeeeeeavy heavy redesign. Rocksteady has a militeristic/guerilla look to him that still works, but Bebop just absolutely REEKS 80's.

I disagree. I think the only landmark 80s details about him are the high-top sneakers, and the purple sunglasses. Everything else is contemporary enough, or looks cartoon-villain enough to be acceptable. I mean he's got a mohawk and skinny jeans. He looks like a modern hipster.

Or a douchey clubber. Just replace the 80s shades with a pair of these:

LOL!

I was thinking the only thing that really looked contemporary are his sneakers! lmao

Dark Hayabusa 01-30-2013 05:24 PM

Are they taller than the turtles? It's hard to tell for sure. But I do like Rocksteady's helmet is removable, but he'll need a machine gun though

It's right in front of Leonardo.

Then it's settled. He doesn't need an overhaul.

Robogeek28 01-30-2013 05:49 PM

These will be bought in an instant! :)

SpeedBreaker 01-30-2013 06:13 PM

Need to see better pics before I decide. I only had the 4 original turtles as a kid so I'm happy just with the 4 Classic Turtles.

Funny that the display Don there has the derpy eyes. :D

They weren't in the original comic either. Which means that most likely the character rights to Bebop and Rocksteady are owned by Murakami-Wolf-Swenson Film Productions Inc, not Mirage comics. Therefore, any appearance in new media (such as the new 4kids Entertainment cartoon) would first require securing the rights from MWSFPI.

So, while getting the rights for a line based on the classic cartoon is worth it, getting them for use in a new show probably isn't.

I'm not sure that's how it is.
See, Nickelodeon holds the rights to everything TMNT related now. They own the franchise, not just the cartoon. They own the comics, and all the toys. Kevin Eastman sold Mirage to Nickelodeon.
These new Bebop and Rocksteady toys were licensed to Playmates by Nickelodeon - at least I'm pretty sure of that, considering everything else.

EDIT:
Mirage Studios - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:

On October 21, 2009 it was announced that cable channel Nickelodeon (A subsidiary of Viacom) had purchased all of Mirage's rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property.
Granted, I can't find anything about what rights are held by Murakami-Wolf-Swenson, I think the appearance of Bebop and Rocksteady in the Classics line heavily suggests Nickelodeon owns the characters.

Wolvie Snikt 01-31-2013 10:26 AM

luigicesare 01-31-2013 11:37 AM
