Dishwasher Safe?

Has anyone tried putting some of your old vintage GI Joe or star wars playsets in the dishwasher to get the funk from the attic or garage that's been built up for years and years off? I mean def not on a high heat setting but has anyone tried this?

I did a ghost busters firehouse to get the 80's slime residue off and it worked fine it will remove stickers though.

i would imagine the safest although not nicest way is it to wash it by hand ...

wouldn't the water in a dishwasher be too hot and warp some parts? I've seen some customisers use ultrasonic cleaners, but I stick with just soap and water and a old tooth brush

Any cleaning will risk the loss of stickers. If you want to do a deep cleaning of toys I recommend first using a heat gun to get the stickers off, and adhere them to a piece of wax paper. Dismantle the toy as best as possible and either scrub each piece by hand with a toothbrush and rag, or hit it with the garden hose. If its to the point where it needs a "deep" cleaning, the toothbrush and rag will get the best results. Use a little warm water and some elbow grease. I would also recommend a soft head toothbrush. I would also avoid soaps. Once clean, dry it as best you can with a towel, and let it air out over a few hours. Then use a little glue on the stickers, and stick them back on. Rubber cement works best.

I'd like to add that you need to make sure any metal surfaces are completely dry after cleaning. Especially any screws or rivets in Joes or similar figures. They will either tarnish or rust very easily, if you're not careful.

Also avoid any abrasive cleaning solutions, as they have been known to eat through the paint and/or plastic.

OK, so the Creature Cantina, and Hoth Rebel command center as well as a vintage dewback all took the plunge and came out perfect.... Next I'm gonna try a few vintage vehicles... Y-Wing, Snowspeeder, Tie Fighter, Imperial Transport...
