Jurassic Park Toys (All Films & EU)

Anyone else collect these guys?

I had loads as a kid then sold them all but last year ended up buying a lot back. Missed them too much as they had great vehicles and play-sets.

salsa4datass 07-14-2013 09:34 AM

I have a few of the dinos but no playsets...

Optimus Neeson 07-14-2013 03:29 PM

I still have the original electronic t-rex, doesn't work anymore, but it's beautiful. I also have the Thrasher t-rex from the second movie, and the baby raptor in an egg. They've all survived my childhood.

Barefootabe 07-14-2013 04:24 PM

ive had a lot of them from all 3 movies..although ive sold most of my 1st movie things

Crazy Jetty 07-15-2013 03:09 PM

With the exception of the god awful JPIII line (and it's subsequent repaints), the Jurassic Park toys are the best dinosaur toys ever made.

Which is exceptionally sad given how much better toy tech has gotten since then, and how much more we've learned about dinosaurs in the following two decades.

Andy Carruthers 07-15-2013 03:35 PM

Yeah the 3rd line was awful. Only good thing to come out of that was the massive Spinosaurus but it still lacks slightly.

Anyone interested in the idea of JP4 and the possible toys to come?

CMIII 07-15-2013 05:32 PM

Jurassic Park 4 is on Hold. Undisclosed amount of time

Thank god! It's been in development hell forever, and I hope it never gets made.

CMIII 07-15-2013 09:48 PM

they need to just start off nuking the island like the book

"best dinosaur toys ever made" ? i'll have to disagree. i think papo makes the best dinosaurs. i LOVE that the jaws are articulated. i'd rather have a static dinosaur with a posable jaw, rather than a dinosaur with a couple of articulated arms a no posable jaw.

I politely disagree. Those aren't toys. They're $30+ statues. They wouldn't interest me as a kid at all.
They're pretty to look at, but they're as useless as useless gets.

^ actually the papo figures are toys but are considered educational toys. tru has sold the other companies figures (schliech I think it's called)for years and now walmart has jumped into selling them in their toy section...
I still want all those papo figures but some are hard to find or to pricey for the size...

Optimus Neeson 07-16-2013 04:35 PM

While I love Papo's dinosaurs, and have several, they are not very educational. They're based on Jurassic Park designs, which are inaccurate almost across the entire line. Their latest t-rex is actually based on the V-rex from Peter Jackson's King Kong, which is not a very accurate dinosaur, because it's made up.

agreed! maybe that's why only a limited amount of stores carry them...
and I didn't know they did a new rex...

According to this it's slated for a 2015 release apparently.

Exclusive: Jurassic Park 4 Targeted for 2015, to be Shot in 3D - ComingSoon.net

I loved 1 & 2 but 3 just left me with a sour taste. The idea of getting new toys is awesome but not if it'll be crap. Also anyone seen these?

They got released at the start of the year but have never seen them in the UK. Not too crazy on the colours, seem they are taking that from the Chaos Effect line.

trebleshot 07-17-2013 07:10 AM

Those have been at my local TRU for months now. I personally think they're crap. And as far as accuracy goes, I'm perfectly fine running with the excuse that all of the JP dinosaurs are not actual dinosaurs but mutants and lab experiments gone awry.

So they can be big, purple and sing about love for all I care. ;)

CMIII 07-17-2013 08:48 AM

give it a month and it will go back on the shelves just like the Justice League Movie. Honestly I think they need to go back and Relaunch the Movie series and follow the books a tad closer.

It's the Allosaurus mold that I'm loving. Out of curiosity do you know how much they retail for?

They're both awesome, but they're both $30 each.
If they didn't come with the stupid humans, which would hopefully cut the cost down, I'd troopbuild the hell out of the pachyrhino.

Now those are toys.

not toys?

i don't think any of these cost $30+ .. at least not where i live. you can get most of them in the $20's at the learning express.

plus, when i was a kid.. dinosaur toys weren't articulated at all. they looked unrealistic and all of their articulation came from my imagination.

if you don't mind me asking, how old are you now?

i would've killed for these things when i was a kid.

trebleshot 07-18-2013 05:40 AM

Technically, a rock can be considered a toy. For some, Hot Wheels are their toys. For others, their toys are actual cars.

It's all a matter of perception.

Based on what I've seen of the humans, I doubt removing them would do much of anything to the retail price. There isn't much there to begin with, since it's a typical "figure that came with the vehicle" type of toy.

Old enough to have grown up on Dino Riders and Definately Dinosaurs. Which were pretty damned articulated for the time. A hell of a lot more than those shelf pieces.
Papo wouldn't have interested me as a kid then, and they don't now. Give me an action figure over a statue any day.
