Is this toy rare and is it worth anything ?
Hi all, first post and I came looking for information.
I was going through the old star trek stuff in the garage and looking up prices for things online. I came across an abnormality and I couldn't find any info online about it. It is a Playmates Star trek the Next Generation toy, and is the wrong figure packaged for the card. It is a Gowron the Klingon toy w/ his correct accessories, but it is packaged on a Lieutenant Worf card. The CArd is a bit bent up but not in terrible shape. So any idea how rare this misprint/mispacking might be, and is it worth anything ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |
90s star trek toys are generally not worth much. youll see plenty of sellers at toy shows with buckets of figures thatll never sell. Accessories always get the higher value(phasers, tricorders, etc) and the electronic ships of course. as for your figure, even if its a mispackage, its probably still not worth much.

I had a few of those. They were worth something in the 1990s. These days, only some Picard figure is worth ANYTHING. I don't know what happened to the line, but I mourn the inability to resurrect Star Trek to it's glory it had in the 1990s.

And to add to what's already been said, factory errors are hit-or-miss when it comes to what they're worth. Sometimes collectors will pay quite a lot for a packaging error while sometimes it's worth less than a correct version. Generally, the ones that fetch higher dollar amounts are running change errors (like "a newer bubble insert on older card" kind of thing).
Given the current state of 90's TNG toys, I doubt yours is worth all that much. But you could always throw it up on Ebay and see what people are willing to pay for it. Who knows? Maybe there's a die-hard out there hunting for something like this. Quote:

You could just put it up on ebay for like $20 and see if anyone thinks it rare. The market may surprise us. |
Well, that's slightly disappointing, I had hoped (of course) that I had stumbled into a small goldmine of a maybe a few hundred bucks, but that was always a pipe dream seeing as I have no concept of the values of toys to collectors.
Anyway, I appreciate your opinions and help fellas. One suggestion I got multiple times on my usual go to forum (in 'off-topic' as it's not a toy forum) was simply to take it to a few local comics/collectible shops and see what they might offer (if anything), then possibly put in on ebay with a price based on that average. I will probably try that if I can find the time, or otherwise just put it on ebay and see what happens as suggested here. Thanks again. |
