This sums it up pretty well, courtesy of the Monday staff at the Broken Yolk on 6th.

Absolutely awesome pictures, Boss Man. I just relived the adventure visually.

That doesn't look like what most photos usually suggest. I always thought 50% or more of attendees were in costumes. I see maybe 1% dressed up in those photos.
Also, while I acknowledge that those 3 photos showing the crowd from above probably don't show the entire convention area, if they do indeed show the entire/or majority of the convention area, it is a lot smaller and less crowded than most photos usually suggest. I always thought it was truly massive, with densely packed crowds.
Those 3 photos almost make it seem like a tolerable experience.

Hey optimus,

50% in costumes - no not at all. 1/2% is about right. IMO cosplay was a bit light this year.

Size - in that pic that's about 25% of the room. If you look, the Mattel sign in top right corner of that pic - that's the midway point of the hall. After that is Hasbro, all the movie company stuff, more dealers and smaller companies, artist alley and more. To the left of the pics, another 25% including dealers and the entire video game area.

Plus upstairs for all of it.

Density - that is the least trafficked area, and it was Sunday near end of day. During peak, it was shoulder to shoulder for 3 football fields.

I see. Thanks for the details.

Let me make sure I'm reading this right. You're saying half a percent are in costume? As in, not even 1 full percent?

Tony_Bacala 07-25-2013 02:11 PM

Sorry, no I was estimating 1 or 2 percent. Though, that's completely unscientific. Bottom line, half the people aren't in costume. It's mostly just regular folks.

That chick dressed up as Poison Ivy......yum
