New Batman

Ben Afflac to play Batman?!?!?!? Why????? Prediction Epic failure of a Movie

Piper2381 08-23-2013 03:52 AM

Wicked Awesome...

MegaPrime33 08-23-2013 04:34 AM

I find it hilarious how quick to judge everyone is. Here's a thought, why not wait and see how Ben is in the role before judging?

CMIII 08-23-2013 04:57 AM

need I remind you Daredevil. Let me guess Vicky Vale... Jennifer Garner

MegaPrime33 08-23-2013 06:18 AM

That was a long time ago, and I think he's come a long way since then. Look at Health Ledger. His career wasn't all that stellar before he did TDK, and everyone thought before hand he was the wrong choice.

CMIII 08-23-2013 07:36 AM

I was actually all for Heath as Joker I knew if anyone could pull it off it was him. My problem with Ben is he won't commit to sequels much less do them his Movies since DD have not done exceptional. He had to produce and direct in order to do a movie

atomicsmurf 08-24-2013 01:04 PM

Not liking this choice of Batman. I just can't see past Ben to believe he's Batman.
I thought this was a Superman sequel anyway! I hope Ben plays a small role in the "mooby". Very small.

CMIII 08-24-2013 05:28 PM

it's going to be Superman vs Batman so him being small is highly unlikely

ummm...are you by any chance a 14 year old? He wrote good will hunting and won an oscar for that. He directed Gone Baby Gone and won an oscar for directing Argo. He was terrific in the Town and Hollywoodland
I'm guessing when you say he hasnt done exceptional you really mean "I don't watch movies with adult themes"

Sit down. Watch the Town and Argo and then come back to me and tell me you're still worried.

Look at the history:
Adam West-Great for a kids comedy
Micheal keaton-good mix of serious with a touch of cheese
Val Kilmer-sigh
George Clooney-Best portrayl of Bruce Wayne.Terribad movie.
Christian Bale-Good first movie, okay second performance completely upstaged by ledger, third go around terrible. watch 5 min of the Batman scenes in each movie back to back. If the made a fourth the dialouge would just be a rock grinder held up to the mike.

Really Bale's got one good movie for Ben to compare performances to.

CMIII 08-24-2013 07:55 PM

No I'm not and you mention Three Movies wins Oscars not for Acting (Directing and Writing) stick with strength theres a Big Difference between Writing a Movie and acting

Crazy Jetty 08-24-2013 08:07 PM

I agree with megaprime and tlasjr.

Won't judge Ben until I see him. He's a hell of a lot better an actor than like... everyone... gives him credit for. And at this point I pretty much feel everyone bashing him is basically like bashing Gobots. Doing it only because it's what the "cool kids" do.

It's also hilarious how everyone blaims Afleck for Daredevil being bad. Last I was aware he didn't do anything but act in it. To my knowledge he didn't write or produce it, and I know he didn't direct it.
That's like saying Shia Labouf is responcible for Revenge of the Fallen being one of the worst movies ever made, when all he did was just act in a role. Or Hugh Jackman is at fault for Wolverine Origins being so terrible.

I'm disappointed they didn't go with Joseph Gordon Levitt (But of course, I'm also still disappointed they didn't name Levitt's character Terry McGuiness), but I won't hold that against Afleck. Another way to look at it is maybe this means they're going to keep the two franchises separate. Superman doesn't really fit very will in the Nolen Batman set up, and this could be their effort to make Batman usable for a Justice League movie.

And this conversation is the first I've *ever* seen anyone suggest that writing and directing a movie is a step down. That's just friggin' rediculous AND hilarious.

I never intended to make it seem as a Step down I simply said the three are very different. In general Movie Writers do not simply make a book they pretty much give the Director how the scene should look with details, the Director tells the actor how the scene should start and end sometimes they even push the actor to the destination, The Actor Does the scene. I have watched several "Ben Afflac Movies" He has dropped the ball in several (Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, and Daredevil) in my opinion I do not think he will be able to pull the Batman side but the Bruce Wayne side he'll do fine. I do think Zack Snyder will be able to make Ben do a movie that's not something he's involved with in another way good.

Crazy Jetty 08-25-2013 11:04 PM

Uh, I don't think you understand how this whole "Making a movie thing" works at all.

The writers do not tell the director and actors what they need to do. If they did, they would be the Director.
Yes, the writers basically do just "write a book." They have very liittle to do with the final version, being kept on hand to make revisions. Many writers never have a thing to do with them after the script leaves their posessions.
The one who tells the actors what to do, who interperates the script, that's the director. They do not take orders from the writers.
There's a reason why writers aren't superstars, in the movie industry. (Certainly nothing like they should be.)
Also, all those movies you cite... Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, Daredevil... there's one thing that unites them beyond Afleck.
THEY'RE TERRIBLE MOVIES. Without Afleck being anywhere near them, they're still some of the worst movies ever made! Michael Bay directed two of them, for chrissakes.

Batman is not Ruined Forever because they cast Ben Afleck. (That is a general statement given how worked up and overreactive the whole of the internet seems to be, that is not directed at anyone in particular.)

CMIII 08-26-2013 03:46 AM

Why are words being put in my mouth? The 3 movies I worked on were story boarded one prior to a book being written. I never said it would Ruin Batman I said Ben Affleck is not a good choice. I rank him somewhere between Val kilmer and George Clooney as a Batman. I like many movies Kilmer and Clooney have done. Heck Oh Brother Where Art Thou is perhaps my Favorite but Clooney sucked as Batman

trebleshot 08-26-2013 07:47 AM

I'd sooner blame the director and the casting director for Batman & Robin before I blame Clooney.

As for Ben being cast, I'll wait until I see the film before I decide if he was good or bad, as I've always done with movies based on comics. And TBH there are far worse choices that could have been made instead.

CMIII 08-26-2013 10:42 AM

I Blame everyone for Batman & Robin I can't hear the song "kiss from an Rose" without starting to have an ansurasim.

I am going to give Ben Affleck a chance. I gave Ryan Reynolds a chance and he blew it. In the end Ben will only play batman once anyway

Crazy Jetty 08-26-2013 02:44 PM

This is quite simply the most hilarious and enjoyably rediculous thread that has been on the board in a loooong time.
