Unofficial movie Dredd figure?
While browsing the 2000AD forum, I found this [Art Figures] AF 015: Heavy Armoured Special Cop - "Judge Dredd" 1/6 scale
By the generic, "heavy armoured special cop" name I'm guessing it's not licensed, so who knows if this will get stamped on by the lawyers or not? I think the same company made an unofficial Punisher figure, based off the Thomas Jayne movie too. |
Yeah, either a custom or unlicensed version. I think I've seen it, or at least a similar version, on a few of the 1/6 Japanese sites.

It's a bootleg. 2000AD deleted any links on it's forum and mentioned taking legal action. So no movie Dredd for me then :(
|
This thing is sick...Hopefully they're able to get it out before legal action takes place. He would look great standing next my Hot Toys Robocop when that one eventually comes in.
I'm not really sure how it's a bootleg...The company that makes these is a legit toy company, and they have several figures from other movie franchises. Although the likenesses are spot on, they don't advertise the figure by using the film franchise they are from. (For example, their take on Jason Statham from The Expendables is simply called "Soldier of Fortune.") Other companies, such as BBi used to do the same thing, offering molds and figures inspired by action movies and their stars. For example: Detective Chow (Chow Yun Fat from "The Corrupter) Dragon 1 6 Scale 12" Action Figure NY New York Police NYPD Detective Chow 72004 | eBay Winona Ryder (not sure of the movie, but the likeness of the actor is there...) Winona NYPD Emergency Service Unit ESU Sniper Tean Observer Dragon Did Figure | eBay I'm sure that it's possible they could be sued, but seeing how many other third party companies have done the same thing (For example, IGear Toys, who blatantly ripped off Hasbro's/Takara's seeker mold and made it better...) I'm sure that they might be able to get away with it. Honestly, I hope this figure is released, because it's pretty bad ass, and I'd gladly put up the 200 ponies for it. |
The lack of any copyright on the images and generic name is a giveaway to it's unofficial status. Also, mods on the 2000AD forum deleted the posts it appeared on and a site that had it on pre-order (I think via benscollectables), the page is now missing. So I'm certain Rebellion (who own 2000AD) dropped the banhammer on it.

I can't find it on Monkey Depot anymore either... DAMN, I wanted to buy this thing!
|
Same here. I was willing to have this and the Monkey Depot in my collection.
|
Damn, that looked sweet!
