The Marvel Universe Tips Thread

this thread is about tips about the marvel universe figs like, how to put the accessories on correctly or which parts are swapable or which heads from different toylines could be used for customizing an unmasked tony stark or peter parker or something.
i'll start

The Armor from the rhino from the spider man line could be used on any big MU figure like hulk(green, red, grey),the thing and juggernaut.it looks best on juggy.

Johnnyakiba 06-04-2010 03:49 PM

My tip for "Shield" belt. Nick Fury and the upcoming Winter Soldier have these belts. The Nick fury was packaged with his glued to his upper waist. I have felt that it is more asthetically pleasing to push that sucker right onto his hip joint. They do stay when posed and then look like they are not being choked at the upper waist.

Prem1x 06-04-2010 08:40 PM

Johnny Storm and Reed Richards legs can be swapped to make one short and the other taller. Helps a bit.

There's the old Modern Ms Marvel head on a Classic to make Sofen Ms Marvel.

There was a guy who cut his Magneto in half, added sculpy and hid the cut with the belt to make him taller.

The 25th Duke head looks good on Capt America as Steve Rogers.

The rocket launcher on IM2 Hypervelocity can make a good jet pack if the bracket is cut off and a peg drilled and inserted.

The sword can fit into the back of Ronin's and Hand Ninja's belt.

Some peeps cut Cage's necklace and glue it into a belt buckle.

ROC Baroness feet look good on Ms Marvel and Punk Storm (they have black boots).

Shin Densetsu 06-04-2010 08:48 PM

If you have a stuck wrist joint, what I did with my comic pack Wolverine was pull out a hair drier and heat the forearm for a bit to get the plastic soft. Once it was soft enough, I pulled out the hand. I got an exacto knife and started scraping a layer of plastic out of the inner forearm. Then I reheated the forearm, and put the hand back in. Then I shoved the figure in the freezer for a few minutes.

Minutes later I pulled it out and voila, fixed figure with no stuck wrist!

.

i knew about the magneto fix but i never thought to actually do it until today.i used what was left from the neo-viper i used for my modified havok.and it helps,i wish every figure that used that body type was that tall.

i want to make a steve rogers figure from how he looks in secret avengers, any tips?

Consider Mutt Williams (Indy) or Cadet Checkov (Star Trek) for a Peter Parker head.
Consider Face (A Team) for Tony Stark. There's some GIJoe head that people use but I forget which one. There's supposed to be an unmasked Tony Stark IM2 head later this year.

elmaximo 06-06-2010 07:27 PM

try putting a GI Joe: ROC Dr. Rex Lewis head on the HYDRA soldier's body. Makes a pretty good Baron Strucker (minus the monocle).

I've heard of using a 25th Duke head for an unmasked Steve Rogers, but not one for Tony.

I've used a Wraith Head for stark before. But not anything else just yet.

Also:

Dark Ms. Marvel - Modern Head, Classic Body.
Iron Patriot - IP body, Silver Centurion Head (if you want a different head than extremis)

Purifiers - Zartan head, Wraith Armor, Reactive/Impact armor Duke. Add some black felt to the wraith armor for full effect.

*Sigh* And my biggest trade secret revealed.

DarkHawk - Extremis Ironman, paper clip, Wraith Gauntlets, and ToyBiz TAS 90s Spider-Man Vulture wings. Once you cut off the gear section of his wings, they peg slot for his arms fit in the wraith gauntlets and can slide lock tight. That's the trick to my X-23 darkhawk armor figure. The paper clip just heat up, then press between the eyes to make the visor slit all one piece. The legs then are just whatever legs you think look best then. only Paint the main part of the visor silver also, leave the bottom of the mouth blue instead of making that gold silver too.

A Resolute Duke head works wonders on Steve Rogers too.

Black Cat - Dark Ms. Marvel head (green eyes, not white eyes, more accurate mask), Any female body, and take your pick between Dark Ms. Marvel Hair, or Lightning Bolt ms. Marvel hair.

Scarlet Witch - Enchantress has the same head style as classic Scarlet Witch, just paint the face frame/hair holder red. and her hair the color you need.

Mr. Fantastic - Swap Reeds head with unflamed torches if you want the light blue and black costume. Gives him a more string bean appearance too like he should have. If you prefer the dark blue and whites, then use that torch instead.

The Repulsor blasts in MU can be used for Firestar's flight effect, as well as Ms. Marvel blasts if you want her to have microwave hands.

Ultron's Head fits on Extremis IM if you want the Ultron Iron Man as seen on a comic cover.

The spidey and his amazing friends 3 pack Iceman can easily be Modified to HOMER from Iron Man, if you want the hologram AI.

IM2 MK III and MK VI use he same hands, just swapped fists and open hands. So if you want a two fisted, or two open handed figure, you can swap their hands.

You can also swap hands with the Female body and ROC reactive/Impact armor scarlet for more variety of hands instead of the repeated fist and open hand.

Wasp can stand in Giant-Man's hand also. (See picture, though I repainted my wasp black and yellow. And sorry for the crappy pic.)

Doom 2099 - Ultron Body, Dr. Doom head, Cobra Commander Cape.

Venom - Spidey line venom, but using whatever method, pop the legs out of the balls. Do the same for sabertooths legs, and swap them, and you have a more articulated Venom figure.

Domino - Agent Helix is the perfect domino base body and head.

Bob - Take an AIM body, swap the head with the Hydra head, you have Bob agent of AIM from the recent Heroes Hulked out mini.

Blade's sword can go down his back in the slit in his coat, but it bends his sword over time.

Daredevil can have his nunchuks at his hip if you use one of the clear rubber bands that figures sometimes come with to keep weapons in their hands.

Prem1x 06-10-2010 10:45 AM

I could use some hints on good (not too expensive and already painted) heads for my SHIELD soldiers.

And I need a jet pilot head/mask for a Hydra Agent who flies my re-badged Sky Sweeper.

Joe heads are your friend. =3

Lady Jay could make a decent Maria Hill, and honestly all you need is the ROC scarlet body and paint her string backpack thing white, and cut off the dropline part, and it's a shield female figure. As for the rest, just any joe head just about can work. They'll yield variety, as well as give you alternate pilot needs, and so on.

I've thought about doing it with IM2 nick fury even.

Prem1x 08-19-2010 06:39 PM

Do Joe hands easily swap for the gorilla hands of MU series 1 Punisher/Black Panther?

Tarquinius 08-19-2010 09:22 PM

Variant Havok's head piece is annoying as crap......has anybody tried cementing that thing in place?

Nope it's not, it's double tabbed on like most of the Iron Mans shoulder armors. A little dab of super clue to the back connection and it'll never move again.

My few little mods

Iron Man Comic Series Crimson Dynamo's Blast effect fits very nicely on Cyclops.

Take one of the PoC Alley Viper, swap it's left hand for Winter Soldier's (putting it on the robot arm) and Winter Soldier can now actually hold his Assault rifle correctly with his finger around the trigger. I tried to swap the right hand, but the colors didn't match as well, and the Alley Vipers peg was too big for the wrist socket on that arm.

And as seen in FxFranz review of him, Havok looks much better with the yellow comic series Iron Mans yellow spiral repulsor blast instead of that blue piece of junk that comes with him.

If you want a unmasked (or 90's cartoon X-men) Sunfire then a GI Joe: ROC Storm Shadow head works nicely.

Prem1x 10-04-2010 05:04 PM

Biggs Darklighter's head makes a pretty good Tony Stark head.

I like the whole ROC Artic Storm Shadow figure as Fantomex. I might wipe off the Cobra symbol eventually.

snake5289 10-04-2010 06:33 PM

Anyone know of a good suit body to make a Tony Stark with? Got some good ideas for heads from you guys already but I can't think of anyone in a suit.

You can also swap the thighs with Sunfire to make Sunfire a little shorter and Mags a little taller.
