NECA Previews "Dog" Alien Figure from Aliens 3

luigicesare 05-08-2014 09:42 PM

what's wrong with the peg hole around the belly and crotch?

I believe that's just for the in-progress sculpt. It allows them to keep the sculpture upright by attaching it to a stand. It likely will not be on the final product, unless they have something else planned for it.

DecepticonSpike 05-10-2014 09:38 AM

I just got into NECA's Alien line a few months ago. I would not mind adding this to it.

ShabbyBlue 05-10-2014 12:28 PM

I wonder when we'll get a peek at their Ripley figure or any planned variants. It's been 2-3 months now since NECA announced they acquired Weaver's likeness rights, though I'm sure they had already secured those rights much earlier than the official announcement, otherwise why sculpt and display the powerloader at February's Toy Fair when it's clearly meant to be paired with a Ripley figure? So I bet Ripley has has already been sculpted. Hopefully we'll see something at SDCC in July.

DecepticonSpike 05-10-2014 04:08 PM

I'd like to see a standard Aliens one and a variant in her Nostromo uniform.

ShabbyBlue 05-10-2014 05:42 PM

If they have the approved likeness, they should milk it for all its worth and do versions of Ripley from Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection too. Ideally we should get:

Alien - Nostromo jumpsuit (I bet this is the figure that Jonesy the cat will come with. Jonesy was already teased at 2013's SDCC Neca display)
Alien - Nostromo spacesuit (just put a new head on the existing sculpted spacesuit from the scene at the end of the film)
Alien - Tanktop and panties (hehe... wishful thinking?)

Aliens - standard outfit (this one is probably coming first so we have a figure to put in the power loader. Sure do wish we could get a Newt figure to go with her)

Alien 3 - Bald Ripley (so we have someone to pose with this new dog alien figure)

Alien Resurrection - Ripley Clone

All of them could just keep re-using the same headsculpt, with different sculpted hairstyles. I hope NECA has the sense to make the most out of the likeness rights so that we can get every incarnation of Ripley in figure form.

Also, wouldn't it be great if the head was compatible with Mattel's Dana Barret figure from their Ghostbusters line and easy to do a headswap? Ripley's hairstyle from the first Alien movie is close enough to her Ghostbuster's hair, so it would be great to put that head on the Dana figure and have a more accurate/less generic Sigourney likeness on that figure.

No way. She looked very different in between each movie. NECA wouldn't cheap out like that. Her face looked incredibly different in between the first and second movie, even the third, and especially the fourth. They would be crazy not to sculpt movie accurate faces that depict Weaver's aging.

ShabbyBlue 05-12-2014 04:46 PM

I bet they will use the same headsculpt for all versions of her.

And technically, regardless of the age of the actress in the first film versus the 2nd film, the CHARACTER didn't age at all since she was cryogenically frozen from the end of ALIEN to the beginning of ALIENS. The only difference should be the hairstyle. :)

I really wish we could get a Newt figure too. You figure it would be so essential to complete the look/feel you know. I wonder why they wont do a Newt Figure... it makes no sense...

The same reason it took so long to do Ripley; Likeness rights. Carrie Henn hasn't been in anything since that movie and she may not want her likeness used in figures.

No I get that. But then just make one close or something. But outright not doing a figure when we are finally getting Ripley... just seems wrong.

Joe Moore 05-15-2014 10:00 AM

Since NECA bases their movie line stuff solely on character licenses/likenesses, Newt makes no sense. They can get away with not having Peter Weller as Robocop, but a generic Newt figure makes no sense, financially. It's not majorly in-demand character.

Phantomcrow 05-15-2014 10:30 AM

As much as I might want a Newt, she is at the bottom of the list for me. I want BURKE( need some Paul Reiser), Drake, Apone, Vasquez, Gorman, then maybe some Frost, Ferro, Crowe, Deitrict, Wiersbowski, and last but not least...Spunkmeyer.

Agreed...that's a good list especially since we already got Hicks and Hudson. Newt would be good for the collector side of me but if the made it a random faced figure and called it newt I'd be ok with that too..
