*First thread* Do you keep your action figs inside or outside?

Do you usually keep your action figures inside or outside of the box that it comes in? I know for collectors that alot of them keep figures in the boxes, but if you find like a rare figure on Ebay, do you buy it and keep it in the box or open it up and display it?

/Sorry if I am stupid or something, I am new here

warmachine6 07-05-2014 01:28 PM

for me is, rip the packaging at all costs and unpack-age it and pose it check it out and stick on a shelf and perhaps make an animation ...
I can see why people keep it in the packaging and that's fair enough but i do like to pose them , and unlike packaged figures you can't do that you just have 1 pose rather than limited to your imagination

i don't rip it , although i have kept some packaging for rare figures but i just don't have room for packaged figures they take up too much space for me.

Il Cattivo 07-05-2014 02:56 PM

outside like they're meant to be.

Feijai 07-05-2014 05:28 PM

I usually get double or triple of the figure I like. Open one to play than keep the others for collection

Nymesys Prime 07-05-2014 05:44 PM

I tend to leave packaged until I get the room to display or the display cases I want. if I leave packaged then all the accessories are witht he figure..but once the display is ready then its open open open..as they said before packaging takes up tons of space. I don't do multiples as I collect too many lines to afford em all but if u into that sorta thing go for it. Most of all enjoy your figures however way that appeals to you

Bradsdadg 07-05-2014 05:52 PM

I keep all of my stuff as mint as possible, still in package. I do have some vintage TMNT that I am collecting, not in package but complete with all accessories.

Foreddyn 07-05-2014 06:27 PM

Loose collector here, open and display them. Now just how to deal with the dust build-up...

smilewithabear 07-05-2014 07:36 PM

both; depends on whether i have enough space to display them. but most of my mcfarlane figures stay in their packaging

Phantomcrow 07-05-2014 09:03 PM

I tend to open maybe 95% of toys I get. Some stay in package until I have somewhere to put them, but then I open them. I have had days where I will open like 30-40 things and just put them in bags and then put all of them in a storage box just to save space. The only thing I keep in package are special packages for stuff like SDCC and such. Items where the package might be too nice to trash or destroy. But modern toys and figures, package in the trash.

Kirathis 07-06-2014 01:59 AM

Pretty much the same as a lot of the others who have posted. I tend to keep figures in the package until I have a place to put them. It keeps them safer from accidental damage and ensures accessories remain with the figure. Ultra-rare stuff tends to stay in the package. Lately, everything I have is still in its package as I have no display options available for my collection.

I would say it comes down to what you want from your collection. A lot of collectors like to see the figure mint in the package and that's where they get their enjoyment. These almost without exception have a higher resale value later should your want/have to say goodbye to your collection. However, many of us forego the possibility of a high resale value in favor of the fun of creating a display that is all our own. Like I said, it depends on what you enjoy and what you want from your collection. You will find people who are passionate about both ends of the spectrum and most who fall somewhere in between.

There are some amazing collections showcasing both styles in the collections forums. If you are undecided about what you want to do, checking those out for inspiration may help.

bmorr 07-06-2014 09:23 AM

over 90 percent of my collection is open.

merqabah 07-15-2014 02:56 PM

open all of them, repakage the ones that have really cool boxes, or have a friendly repackaging box.

black series, japanese toys etc.

ultraman zoffy 07-15-2014 02:59 PM

The only stuff I have in package are either stuff awaiting a space in my display or fodder I've yet to use. Not to take anything away from whatever their reasoning is, but I can't relate to the MOC mindset at all.

CMIII 07-19-2014 12:20 PM

I have a display cabinet and have 90% in the cabinet. The other 10% (marvel legends and Lego) are kept on top of shelves, TV stand, or Dresser. I do keep the boxes for the Mattycollector figures simply for storage purposes

Defzombie 08-13-2014 10:39 AM

I open almost all of my collection. I have a few MOC pieces here and there but the rest is open.
