I really don't get what the big deal is about this line,to each his own I guess!

Me either. I dont see the correlation between retro figures and bad articulation. If they have elbow and knee articulation, are they less retro?? I know they are less money, but how much are really talking. I am sure a hell of alot more people, including myself, would be into these if they just had those joints.

The Reaction line worked with Alien because Alien had toys back in '79 that were produced and what-not, but never released. So they were releasing toys that never actually saw release to the shelves back when. With all of these new Reaction figures though it's weird and slightly confusing to me, if they have these character rights what's the point of making poorly detailed under-articulated toys? Alien had nostalgia to a point because there were (at least I think so) ads for the toys, these others aren't really nostalgic since when these respective movies were made there weren't toys being produced or advertised. I don't plan on getting these, but I know there are people who do want 'em and I say go for it, I suppose it is still a kind of nostalgia. I definitely feel like these NES figures are a following of NECA's NES figures, I suppose these guys were like "well NECA is doing it and those sell and people like 'em."
Also I still get a kick looking back and seeing how a lot of action and horror movies were made for adults to watch (what with the R-rating) and then marketed to children with toys. Good times.

They're based specifically on the designs of early 80's Kenner action figures. From the figure style to the packaging, which is essentially the Star Wars cards with different art, they scream "Kenner".

Adding in additional joints defeats the purpose of the line completely. They then become just crappy looking action figures that don't inspire the nostalgia of Kenner stylings and can't compete modern collector oriented 3.75" figures. They would fall into this weird directionless limbo. With these designs, they're being very direct and focused, which people seem to be eating up (myself included). I like them specifically because they look like old Kenner figures.

For the record, Entertainment Earth is listing 5 ReAction figures in their top 10 selling toys this week.

I also realize that Kenner style figures aren't for everyone. There are people who don't share the fondness for "bad" figures, and that's cool with me. There's plenty of other companies and lines that cater to those who only want the most modern of figure designs.

I feel with your two comments as if we've offended. If it's so then firstly I apologize, no offense was intended. Secondly, I think maybe it's because the Alien figures were originally made back when, but the others are made now, the new ones feel too "clean." I don't know if that makes sense, but what I mean is the old Kenner figures were made with old techniques and machinery, to an extent so were the Alien Reactions, but a lot of these others are made with new methods and in doing so come off smoother or not quite the same. I don't know if it would've been possible to make them the old way, but it might have given them an older look rather than a new look inspired by the old look. The Predator is the one I refer to most here, it looks way too smooth and cartoon-ish (I get a Scooby Doo vibe) maybe in their efforts to simplify design to meet expectation they simplified a tad too much on that one.
I hope we don't see a Reaction series two based on how different Kenner's PotF2 line was compared to its original line (which is the look these use), can't you imagine all of these characters built like body builders and He-Man. OH YEAH!

Just talking about what they were going for and why I enjoy them.

I can understand the appeal since it's all about nostalgia and now blending nostalgia with modern stuff. Just personally have no need for em. I do kinda want those Cthulhu ones that were kickstarted though just because there's so few Lovecraft figurines.

I definitely get the nostalgia part,what bothers me more is the price,when I saw they were making Six Million Dollar Man,I was excited because I had the original dolls as a kid,but when I saw that they would cost around $20,I was brought back to reality,I have a hard enough time paying $20 for 6 inch articulated figures as it is!

EDIT: I see that these are $9.99 at BBTS,I had heard they would be closer to $20 when they were first announced,regardless,these are not for me,like I said,I get the nostalgia but I'd also like to get better articulation,even if the 5 POA is nostalgic.

I finally saw some of these in person a few weeks back and good Lord were they small. Also, it was about the starkest reminder of why I collected almost nothing but GoBots and TransFormers until Marvel Legends came around.

The only ones I've seen in person were the Alien figures at Hastings, and each one was like $16. A tad too much for me, but for the nostalgia Kenner collector there aren't many other options.

That is a great group shot! Man, even though I don't collect horror figures and universal monsters (aside from the random Frankenstein here and there) I will probably get all of these. And they've been turning up at Barnes & Noble so I don't even have to order online. Such a fun, fun line. I guess I don't get why so many people on the internet are so against them, it's not like they're taking anything away from them. But whatever, they've been wildly successful so far so get used to seeing them around! :D

I don't collect these myself, but I think it's a really cool aesthetic. Then again I grew up in the late 70's, so these kinds of toys were pretty much all we had for small figures until ARAH debuted.

Not to get too philosophical or "when I was your age", but I think starting off with Kenner's original POTF line and Mego's 8" stuff makes me appreciate modern toys like MU and Legends more than someone who grew up with ARAH, MU and ML and have higher expectations.

Me: The only leg articulation is a 90 degree forward swivel at the hip? Awesome, he can sit down.

Kids today: No ankle tilt? FAIL!

I always assumed that the POTFII style was at least partially based on the promotional materials for the movies. If you look at some of the old movie poster art from the first Star Wars film (before it was called Episode IV or A New Hope or any of that), Luke is actually drawn/painted like a bodybuilder. At least to me, he looks very similar to his POTFII figure.

Okay so these new figures kind of a new collector with these. But I love the older look. When I say new I collect puppet master and that other horror figures. I have taken mine all out of the box. If I start collect this think it should be left in the box or out or doesn't matter. I guess I'm just looking at the resale of these years down the line when my kids see these things and want nothing to do with them. Also by start collecting I mean I have already bought jason freddy Michael of course.

Unopened figures are almost always worth more than their opened counterparts. Having said that, very few modern mass-market toys are worth more than their retail price on the secondary market. There are a few exceptions, of course.

I'll put it to you this way: if you have no intention of fiddling/playing with the toys, posing them on a shelf or things like that, I wouldn't bother opening them if I were you.
