Now that is a proper "King of the Monsters"....

En Sabah Nerd 08-30-2014 09:21 PM

I've had this for a few days now and I love it. It's not as great as the SH monsterarts figure, but is really damn close. For only about $20 compared to the SH price of about $60, and for the same size, if you don't have the SH figure or are budgeting yourself, this is the perfect Gojira to go for.

Dr Kain 08-30-2014 10:04 PM

I saw it last night and tried really hard to want to buy it, but in the end, I just couldn't justify it. THe scales are just so wrong. Now if it was the 89 version, I would have done so without a second thought.

I thought you already had the SH heisei Godzilla, if you do then there's no real reason to get this one. I do get what you're saying about the torso, mainly the gut region, having inaccurate/too pronounced scales since the suit was not defined in those aspects, but I think the $19 price for the figure is what makes this toy a contender for the go-to heisei Godzilla toy. You could buy three of this guy for what it costs to get one monsterarts version of the same design, so some differences are to be expected. As I have said, I love having the NECA figure because it's one-third the price but well more than one-third the quality.

TheBlueMarvel 08-31-2014 05:55 AM

If they made a Gamera in the same scale with the same attention to detail....I'd buy the set.

VashTS 08-31-2014 05:58 AM

Was really hoping for the 24" long release of 94....might as well go bigger and better....but in case they don't I don't want to miss it....this is a must buy.

The Monsterarts are too pricey so this is what I am aiming for.

Robogeek28 08-31-2014 06:09 AM

He looks fantastic!

I can't be 100% sure, but I think NECA said that the 24" long figure would only be for the 2014 film. It could be that making the bigger figure takes more time and resources than the average so they decided for more 12" long figures than just one more 24" long figure. Maybe, I don't work there so I can only speculate.

HAHAHA! Nice! MST3K was awesome!! But, not as AWESOME as GAMERA!! It's always been Gamera 1st and Godzilla 2nd for me since I was a wee tyke in the early 80's! Something about the extra trippy and insane plots of the flicks...

KENNY!!!!!!!!!!!
The original series has a cheesy charm to it, but I would prefer a figure based on Gamera's '90s series (specifically his appearance in Revenge of Iris). I could get into the idea of a Gamera reboot from Legendary pictures, Pacific Rim was cool and more importantly the Godzilla reboot was a great return to his formula.

LOL I agree on all accounts. Late 90's Gamera was my favorite and the definitive look I would want re-captured. I would absolutely love a reboot. The only thing I worry about is the over saturation of the market. I liked Pacific Rim's kaiju and giant robos, but I was left wanting. Godzilla really did a great job in capturing the awe, fear, and majesty of the character (being a big fan of Bryan Cranston added the icing to my cake). They did so well, that I feel that Gojira deserves to flex in his own spotlight for right now.

Those early Gamera movies are very nostalgic for me. Even as a kid, it was easy to note that Gamera was decidedly kinder to humans....I hadn't developed a mean streak (yet) and found the righteous anger Gojira displayed at the abuse of the planet (by humans) a bit too indiscriminate in nature. While I appreciated the Japanese narrative of 'preserve the earth' (at times pedantic), I always got the feeling that Gojira would wipe out my entire family to stay on message - that message being: "well, I'll destroy you ALL because humans really suck!" (feel like I should note that this was my experience with 'Zilla plots - not everyone feels the same way) It took me a while to grow into that sort of fury....I needed more real life experience with mankind's fouling of our environment and the general subjugation/denigration of the weak/poor/& sickly. I really like them both very much, I just lean towards Gamera.

I do, which is why I couldn't find any reason to buy it.

Hopefully they are still working on it. But I haven't see any updates from them on it.

jestermon 09-01-2014 09:51 PM

I though the title was saying that they were making a space Godzilla.

NECA has yet to confirm if they have the rights to do any kaiju from Toho other than Godzilla. Personally getting a Space-Godzilla before Ghidora, Mechagodzilla, or anyone else more prominent would be borderline insulting. Not only was Godzilla vs Space-Godzilla the worst Heisei film, but Space-Godzilla is one of Godzilla's lamest villains, even in the movie Godzilla kicks its ass with little trouble compared to any other Heisei monster. I feel like the only reason NECA made this Godzilla based on that particular film is because that is one of the best Godzilla suits from the era.
I think it would be neat for them to repaint it as an exclusive of some kind in the meltdown mode from Godzilla vs Destroyah (or Destoroyah, whichever spelling you prefer).

Joe Moore 09-02-2014 07:08 AM

My best guess is that they would need to wait and see if the line sells well enough to warrant them doing the other kaiju from the films. The biggest hurdle they'll face is the price point. A lot of the other monsters have bigger designs, which would be near impossible to keep at under $20. They may be able to squeeze in a few at the price though, and I hope they do.

DESTRO 09-02-2014 04:29 PM

Joe you are personally responsible for me buying one as a door prize for NJCC. I love this figure.
