Question about making figures from scratch
Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice or links to a site that can help me.
I'm quite interested in the process of making toys completely from scratch. I understand the process of sculpting, and casting and the like, but the bit I'm stumped on is; At what stage (and how) do you add articulation to a figure? What should the model you're working from at that stage be made from? How do you ensure that the joints (ball joints for example) will fit together tightly? What tools are needed to make discs for hinge joints? What are the pegs made from and how do you make sure they're the correct width and depth? I'm presuming that it's easiest to create a solid figure, cast it in wax and then cut it up into pieces, but then what? What's the best tool to cut it up and how do I add the articulation without it looking like a mess? Everything I find on the internet seems to gloss over this stage! |
Anyone got any suggestions?!

Nothing?! I'm sure someone must know a website to visit?!

Here's a good place to start: Table of Contents - TFW2005 - The 2005 Boards
I know that doesn't answer a lot of your questions, but it does give you a place to begin as well as generate some ideas. |
