Venom reissue came today
I received the Venom reissue this morning via UPS from BBTS. i've been waiting for this guy since i preorded him in July of this year.....
Anywho first glance i can see is it's great looking figure, the paint looks good to my standards at least. i've read on a few different toy forums, that the people who already received him notice certain lighter areas on him. sort a blueish tint. i also noticed that on mine. I'll get pics up asap. |
What reissue? What line are we talking about? Universe/Select/Legends? Movie?
|
My mistake, the venom reissue from the Marvel Select line. I should had some pics up tonight sometime.
|
Okay, thanks. I was just curious since you didn't indicate.
|
finally had time to open it and take some pics. seems like excellent quality as always from Marvel select. i did notice some spots on the figure seem more of a bluish tint as opposed to straight black.
i'll get the pics up in a few mins. |
here's the pics, i think its an awesome figure. i thought the tongue was supposed to come out, but i didn't want to risk breaking it, if they decided to change it for the re issued version.
I also noticed that when its fully decked out with the Venom the Madness look, he has a hard time standing up. i had him on my ikea billy shelf, but as i noticed when i walked in a little while ago it just fell down out of nowhere. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e7...psf2bcd620.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e7...psfcdecff0.jpghttp://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e7...ps039984e0.jpg |

The tongue on my figure took a little bit of prying to get out, as the paint on the back of the tongue had bonded with the top of Venom's mouth. A little bit of prodding and it slipped right out, and re-inserts perfectly. Try doing a little bit of hot water or hairdryer treatment and see if it helps at all. I'm not a fan of the blue tones, but it looks good still nevertheless. I really wish Hasbro could get this down into Marvel Legends scale. Venom is one figure that I've felt they have never been able to get right. I love the fact though that this particular figure gives you a little bit of Venom from every major artists take on him, including McFarlane, Larsen, and Bagley. Glad you're enjoying him so much! |
Did Marvel Select ever get around to reissuing the Watcher? I remember talk of it around the time of the Original Sin story line, but I haven't seen one anywhere, and the E-bay price sure as hell hasn't dropped off.

Honestly though, this figure does not work really well on a legends display, because he is just too tall. I know Venom's been drawn at a varying degree of sizes over the years depending on the artist, but this figure is taller than the Green Goblin BAF, which was based off of the Avengers Incredible Hulk, which makes Venom nearly ten feet tall if you were to compare him the Spidey. Brock is about 6'3", and if you use the Eric Larsen "Brock transformation" head, it looks ridiculous when posed next to Spidey...Brock's head is like two feet tall! http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...104_025022.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...104_025048.jpg The only select figure for Venom that I feel works in a legends line is Ultimate Venom, who was purposely drawn at Incredible Hulk sizes from his first panel, and during scenes where Eddie was revealed inside, you could clearly see that the suit was essentially to Brock what the Hulkbuster suit is to Iron Man...a giant EXO frame with Eddie Brock as the pilot. What I really want is a Venom not unlike what we got with Toxin, who I understand wasn't many people's favorite, but one that I really love. He's big and menacing, almost identical to what Venom was in Eddie Brock's peak physical state. More importantly to me, he's closer in scale to Spidey, without being the giant, ten foot, red, black and green pile of poop he is in the comic. Because nobody has been able to make a decently proportioned Venom (except for maybe the 3.75" scale from Amazing Spiderman, that Venom is PERFECT) my current go to Venom over the years is a custom that I purchased many years ago from a fellow who's name I can no longer remember. I recall it being a combination of a Hulk Face Off figure and a DC Universe Superman...and despite it's age, it's held up over the years. Hopefully Hasbro will get us out a decent classic Venom soon (although I would love to see an Infinite Series wave with nothing but Symbiotes, with a BAF that makes an updated Madness Venom!) It was a stretch for me to say he'd work, but I don't have one so I obviously wouldn't actually know. Which Toxin are you referring to? The old toy biz one or the new legends one with the rat teeth? I have the toy biz one and stiff joints aside he's still pretty enjoyable, I passed on the new one because I disliked the look completely. I have the full Venom vs Carnage series where Toxin debuted and I actually did rather like him even though he was yet another symbiote character. Killing Patrick off page and then just conveniently having Toxin wind up on Brock upset me (I didn't read any of the Flash Venom so I don't know the full story) but it did allow a terrific cover. Unfortunately the Toxin we see in the new comics is some kind of weird spaghetti monster mess.

I liked the new Toxin figure, despite the rat teeth. He's about as simple of a figure as it gets, bulky and menacing. My only gripes with it were his exaggerated fore-arms, which weren't a real deal breaker, and his feet, which Hasbro went really cheap on and left them virtually unchanged from the Hyperion buck. They are literally bulky painted boots, with a sole and all. Would it have killed them to just fill in the line going around where the sole meets to foot, making it more streamlined? I also have a painted head from the old Mac Gargan Scorpion Venom (the one with the tail) that works perfectly with Toxin, but the inside of the head needs to be shaved a bit to fit the ball joint, which I haven't gotten around to doing. Though, I don't mind that rat toothed head mold so much as it grew on me a bit. While I'm a Venom fan though and through (he's hands down my favorite Marvel Character) I really hated the watering down he's went through over the years. I was not a big fan of the Mac Gargan swap and the treatment of Eddie Brock's character has been horrible. I really loved where they were going with the Anti-Venom spin, it was awesome seeing him take it to crime again, and the new spin on his powers were wicked. Of course, Marvel couldn't leave well enough alone, killing off Anti-Venom, and bringing back Toxin from out of nowhere. While I wasn't a fan of Brock being the new Toxin, I took the time to read his appearances in the newer Venom series (which is a nice take, but I'm still not a fan of the Flash Thompson thing,) and it grew on me. The symbiote hunter angle for Toxin also made total sense, as the Toxin Symbiote wants nothing more than to get rid of it's parents, and it's nice to see Eddie Brock back as the superior symbiote holder of the group, nearly killing Venom in the process before calling a truce. Now if only comic book artists could give us a definitive, more stable look for the character, instead of making him as you said...a giant pile of spaghetti poo monster. I guess Eddie Brock is to me with Venom what Guy Gardner or Hal Jordan might be to a Green Lantern fan. It just depends on your preference of flavor. Everyone has their favorites, and mine has always been Brock. |
Thanks for updating those pictures, now I definitely see how poorly he fits in the smaller scale. The biggest reasons I passed on the new Toxin were because I already had the Carnage he was the variant with, and I prefer Toxin having black like he used to. It being just two different shades of red with some black around the eyes was more accurate to his current in-comic appearance, but like I said that version isn't my cup of tea. I'm glad you enjoy the new toy.

it's very hard to see the blueish tint on him via the pics, but i guess thats just how they did him on this new version. as for everyone talking about the legends line or any of the other lines... while i like some of the figures, and even considered getting some, i feel their quality isn't the same as a marvel select. you know with the paint detail, and the articulation. and of course the bigger sizes. |

Sinister Six boxset Venom is the best ML scale Venom imo; just repaint his goofy mouth white and he's golden. MS Venom is a great figure, but a terrible Legends fit.

I have a mix variety of DCC figs. I've also read that those batman the animated series figures have been breaking feet, legs, arms etc and it sucks because i really wanted a few of those as well. including that two face. |

http://www.byrnerobotics.com/forum/u...1_BagVen01.jpg Anyway, I just got this as well, and I use it for a classic poster I had as a kid, with Venom and Carnage surrounding Spider-Man. works well... Venom's size is ALL over the place in the comics, so he gets some slack. I want him monstrous. (Minimate Spider-man is a stand-in til I get a decent comics Infinite Spidey) http://s15.postimg.org/m5yd95ruz/image.jpg |

I have that same TPB, but I didn't catch my error until you brought it up. I did mean to say Bagley, but for some reason, couldn't get Larson's name out of my head... That's what happens when you write posts at nearly 3am...lol. Head is still too big though. =P I had that same poster back when I was younger, as well as a printed T-shirt. While I agree that Venom's size is all over the place in the comics, the only select figure that gets some slack with me is the Ultimate Venom. He looks great when paired up with Miles Morales Spidey. The current select Venom is just too big for my tastes to fit in a Legends scale. That said...The ASM2 Spidey figure that just came out (the one with the firehat) is a perfect figure to place with this guy (and one that I look to add to my collection soon should I be able to find the Garfield version at a decent price,) and with the Carnage Select due to come soon, it will look great when all together. Hopefully they don't make Carnage TOO big next to his Select counterparts. |
Agreed that Carnage Select Figure with ASM 2 Spidey and Select Venom would be a killer display scene.
