Sculting???

What do you use to sculpt heads and accessories for custom figures?

The brand I see mentioned most often is Super Sculpty, though I know there are others out there.

some people use Aves Apoxy sculpt.

personally i use a local brand called Waterstop sealant from CORD

The top material to use that I've heard of is Aves Fixit sculpt. If you can't get that, the next best thing is Aves Apoxy sculpt. I'm poor as hell, so I use Super Sculpey, and it works just fine for my needs.

I use super sculpy firm.. comes in a box for round $20 but I get it at michaels and use a 40% coupon lol... then I just bought 2-3 sculpting tools, use the gf's hair dryer to cure it, and bought some $4 sanding blocks, and sheets of sand paper from local hardware store.. if your ever unsure check out jin saotme's website , or go to hlj.com and they have 100's of sanding, painting, sculpting supplies and options... thing about sculpty I like is you can buy a large quanity or different colored small blocks for a $1 or 2, so even start there get a few tiny blocks of black, brown, silver, white and try making ammo, pouches, filling holes etc...

It depends on what you're going to do. Are you going to make heads to cast, or a one-of-a-kind head that sits on the figure?

If you're going to cast them (pour a silicon mold, use resin, etc) then Sculpy is the cheapest and easiest. It's not very strong but doesn't have to be, it's for a mold. Plus it's pretty easy to make facial features and sculpt with tools.

On the other hand if you want a stronger, permanent head for a custom, one that you'll paint and leave on the figure, then Apoxie Sculpt, Fixit Sculpt is the way to go. It's WAY more durable and you can sculpt it on to an existing head easier than Sculpy. However it's like Milliput and requires you to dampen your tools to sculpt, more impression-wise sculpting techniques than Super Sculpy. I use this for everything tho and once you get use to it, it's perfect
