what could have been cooler is if Widow came out instead

Black Arbor 01-12-2015 02:14 PM

Agreed about Widow. You'd think they'd have learned their lesson after the movie Black Widow ML became one of the hardest toys to find for a while... not saying that if this did have her, people would be snapping it up, but it's obvious that people WILL buy figures of females, Hasbro.

Ravenxl7 01-12-2015 04:01 PM

Nice looking jet. Any idea what size this thing is going to be?

its about 7 inches long, for 2.5 inch figures inside just like the guardians of the galaxy ships

Can barely write this without laughing so hard I almost pee, but.., girl toys don't sell. Seriously Hasbro is that the exscuse you'll give when somebody ask why not widow since she's the one we actually see in the trailers pop out of the plane on a bike.

So wait... Avengers can get both 2.5" and 3-3/4" figures... but GotG can only get one of the two? Hasbro, you make no sense...

Anyways, I might look into getting one of the old Batman Beyond 2.5" figures they did. This would make for a good Batwing custom.

Steevy Maximus 01-12-2015 06:23 PM

Guardians of the Galaxy was an unknown property with NO serious expectation that it would be the biggest hit of last year.

Avengers AoU is the sequel to one of the most successful films of all time.

You REALLY don't see why Hasbro would put more into Avengers?

scarecrow 01-12-2015 08:18 PM

I find it funny that people are complaining about character choices in a line they'll probably complain about later for being complete crap. How many of you people are actually gonna buy this?

I for one, will be. Even though it's a step back, these toys hail back to a heyday I think a lot of you don't remember or weren't around for. Minifigures and vehicles are AWESOME. While they could never take the place of quality 3 3/4 scale figures, they have their place, and for kids these are perfect.

And echoing that Guardians was an untested property. Avengers 2 in all honesty will probably be a shit, by-the-numbers sequel, and it will still make millions. I understand the argument, "why didn't Hasbro do X?", but it just doesn't make any sense for them to take risks. Especially when you can still find Iron Man 3 crap peg-warming in Targets across the country.

rwsharpjr 01-12-2015 09:56 PM

I think this may be 3 3/4 scale.
$30 seems too expensive for a 2.5" scale vehicle, no?

I get putting more behind a property that they've already tried out. I just don't think that Guardians was such an unknown that they couldn't have justified doing a small line of the scale of figures they've been doing for these MCU movies since Iron Man 2.

Also, this thing is thirty bucks? Yeah, that sounds more like 3-3/4" scale to me. Could still make for an interesting Batwing custom.

It's been here and there since Phase 1, really. Iron Man 2 had great figures but they warmed pegs so much, I think the demand died. Thor 2 and Cap 2 got lines in that scale(Cap's were terrible), Avengers figures were mediocre to good. Iron Man 3 only had the mix and match crap. Iron Man 3 was an utter disappointment in terms of toys.

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE a Chris Pratt Star Lord in the scale. I adore the design. But honestly, the quality of the figures we've gotten in this scale across Hasbro lines in the last few years has not been impressive. Chances are you probably would've been disappointed with the offerings.

The real tragedy is the way the Marvel Infinite line has been handled. That would be a perfect way to stick in certain movie designs that they couldn't put into full waves. Hasbro's real issue is that the rebrand their good lines every year into something new, so there's not a lot of cohesion to any of their products anymore.

The only line that has any cohesion has been the Legends stuff, and they're knocking it out of the park. It's not my favorite scale either, but realistically 3 3/4 has been neglected for a long time. At best, it's a novelty anymore.

Grimlock64 01-13-2015 03:13 AM

Hasbro really needs to just decide on a size for all of their action figures and just stick with that like they used to. Like we had Marvel Legends, Marvel Universe, and then a lot of movie toylines (as far back as, what, X-Men Origins: Wolverine?) which were in scale to the Marvel Legends lines but weren't that gimmick heavy. Just normal, highly articulated figures.

But that's just me.

Agreed. I'm happy with multiple scales, but Hasbro does keep experimenting and most results aren't collector friendly. Which is understandable in its own way.

I feel like 3 3/4 scale's time has passed for now. I don't like it, but I also don't like spending 10+ dollars for a small figure with little articulation or detail. At least with these goofy micro machines style figures, two packs are cheap. 6 bucks isn't horrible in this day and age for two cool little figures.

Grippen 01-13-2015 03:52 AM

Ye I also think that 3.75'' or 4'' scale is gone. Don't know the exact reasons, probably one is the production cost. I think we will see 2.5'' as the smaller scale from know one. They can make sets for $20 or $15 without people complaining because they are getting a vehicle.

lol who said its gonna be $30? i dont see that info in this news, and even if it is $30 the milano ship was like $25 but didnt include an extra bike that pops out, just go on google imagines and search for "quinjet ultron" and ull see this ship is a lil longer than the upcoming marvel legends hulk and cap america from the ultron movie, and the description of the product says it holds up to 3 figures of 2.5 inch in the cockpit, i dont think they enlarged that toy twice size for the 4 inch figs and charged just $30 for it

redx24 01-13-2015 12:51 PM

I was hoping it might be like the old sigma 6 roccthat came with 2.5 inch figs but fit the 3 inch ones

DESTRO 01-13-2015 08:44 PM

Will not be buying any of this but here is a small list. This is aimed at kids, and to be honest when I was a kid I loved M.A.S.K. - So I hope kids enjoy this stuff because they will be the only ones buying it.

Meantime, here is a closer look at the fully assembled Avengers HQ playset, comprised of Hulkbuster Breakout ($20), Captain America Tower Defense ($20), Iron Man Lab Attack ($20), and Cycle Blast Quinjet ($30), with 2.5-inch deluxe figures ($10) and assorted figures ($6).

scarecrow 01-13-2015 09:28 PM

I'm stoked as all hell for this stuff. Hopefully it maintains the same low price points... I want that Ultron bad.

And do I see a Bleeding Edge Iron Man in the Avengers tower set? Either way looks cool.

JayMoriarty 01-13-2015 09:49 PM

*Sigh* at least we'll have Marvel Legends to look forward to...

Snowflakian 01-13-2015 11:18 PM

Anyone else getting a very heavy Ant-man vibe from Ultron's design?

I know they've said they aren't related in the cinematic universe, but it does feel like they carry similar design cues.

Ravenxl7 01-14-2015 01:54 AM

While I'm not a big fan of the scale of figurs, I do like the idea of playsets like these making a comeback. My nephew could have a lot of fun with these.

ukmu 01-14-2015 02:10 AM

that Hulkbudter is a TITAN HERO TECH and is larfer than the others in the 12" line, so he is arounf 15" or so.

Also, the fully assembled AVENGERS HQ clocks in at a hefty $90. Breakout set-$20/Tower defense-$20/Lab attack-$20/Quinjet-$30.

This line will be fun for little fingers, my son already wants them all. We forget sometimes, as collectors, that toys are for children and meant to be played with.

No 3.75" line sucks, even the possibility of the unconfirmed 5 poa line, but it is the futuren it seems. At least we get to witness the slow decline of the MI line.

I guess the "collector line" will be the ML once again. Oh well, I am spending my cash on army building older MU figures anyway. I will be buying these to be summer toys for my son to play with, he will have loads of fun and they will be broken and lost I am sure. At best, it is getting a new generation into marvel toys perhaps......

Harbinger 01-14-2015 02:43 AM

Pure crap. Terrible scale under articulated and likely to ve over priced. Hasbro seemed not to learn their lesson from trying this scale before.

Except that their most recent attempt (Guardians of the Galaxy) seems to have been fairly successful. The 2.5 inch figure packs and especially the ships were pretty scarce by the time the holidays were over, at least in my area.

It's a scale that allows for playsets and vehicles on a degree that 3.75" generally can't support anymore. Yeah, it sucks for 3.75" collectors if there isn't a "collector quality" line in that scale, but as far as being toys rather than collectibles go...this stuff looks pretty cool. Dunno if it's for me (I'll likely buy the 6" stuff), but I can totally get where Hasbro is coming from with this. I also think that with improved sculpting and paint apps these 2.5 inch figures could be pretty cool even for collectors.

It also makes those MASK rumors make a whole lot more sense and seem a lot more plausible.
