figures falling off shelf....
i'm sure its happen to alot of you, but as of recently within the past few weeks, i've had 2 Neca predators take a nose dive from the top of my Ikea billy shelf onto the ground.. feet came off the Nes Blue Predator and a day or two ago my bad blood came toppling down as well. nothing bad happen just one hand came off but it went right back on.
few nights ago about 3 or so in the morning, i was knocked out sleeping, and i was suddenly startled. my Marvel select Venom re release came flying off the shelf.... Nothing bad happen to either of the predators or Venom, but what the hell causes this? are joints are getting broken in? after this happen i ended up re positioning the legs on the preds and Venom for a better stance on the shelf. Thanks for any input on this matter. |
Sometimes I find that happenings in the rest of a building can make your toys lose standing. Like I have my set up on the second floor of my home, so sometimes the slamming of the front door or what not down stairs can mess with my less than greatly stable figures. I use NECA bases on those who worry me no matter how stable they seem (just small feet by design or loose hips type of stuff). I don't know how deep your shelves go, but maybe push those figures back some so even if they tumble they won't actually take the fall. For my NES Predator I have his feet as if he were leaning forward but his hips as if were leaning back, it's minimal and makes it look just kinda like he's crotch thrusting but he doesn't fall anymore and he doesn't use a base.

I have the MS Venom and the NES Predator and they're both a little top heavy so it wouldn't take too much. I would check for loose joints in the legs first.

Like En Sabah Nerd, I too have had activity and motion throughout the house cause vibrations that caused my figures to fall as well. No matter how stiff or loose a figure's joints are, it's just an inevitability :( . Well, from my experience anyways.
It took me a while to get past the often unsightly look of little plastic stands keeping my figures vertical, but after constantly having to reset displays of Marvel Legends that tumbled like dominos, I started buying those packs of figures stands from shops like Entertainment Earth. Also, although I currently only have a couple, those figure stands from Bandai are amazing. They're sturdy, adjustable, and are especially great for flying and/or hovering characters. Imagine those old Toy Biz Marvel Legends stands, only 1000X better. They can get pricey, but Amazon frequently has them for reasonable prices. Another option, besides stands, is that blue poster mounting putty. The higher quality brands, from my experience, don't leave any sort of residue. In my opinion, this isn't an ideal option, but it can be a temporary solution until you find something better. It sure beats risky falls and time-consuming resets. |

It's just shocking with the venom re issue... this is the first marvel select i've had fall off the shelf. Juggs, wolvy, Slvestri hulk, red hulk, rhino, and anti venom has stay there with no problem for since i've put that shelf together last year. I'm now curious as to how the DC collectibles are when standing on their own, considering i have ALOT of them and i have yet to open them yet. |

I've got a couple dozen round stands that are slightly larger than the Entertainment Earth ones, and have larger pegs that fit Legends and SW Black figures pretty well. Those should work with Predators and Marvel Selects, I'm assuming. I got them at a little shop in Florida, and they only say "Earth" on the bottom, so I don't know who makes them. I've never seen that type at Entertainment Earth, so I can only assume they came from this place: Action Figure Stands I wish that DC Collectibles still included stands like they did when they were still DC Direct. I only have a small number of DC Collectibles figures, and although I wouldn't necessarily say that they're inclined to fall over, I feel a lot more comfortable when I have stands keeping them up. |
Only if you're up for it... been doing this to every figure in my collection in every scale.

I think some of my Spideys may be getting that treatment soon. |

DC Collectibles Action Figure Display Base Bag - DC Collectibles - DC Comics - Stands at Entertainment Earth Other places, like BBTS and Amazon, of course, are offering these too. Paying, on average, about .50 per stand isn't too unreasonable, but I really do miss those line-specific stands that were respectively decorated with Lantern emblems, Bat-symbols, Superman "S"s, Captain Marvel "thunderbolts", etc... On the plus side, for those who prefer to display their figures without eye-catching stands, these are a little more discreet and can keep figures standing, without distracting from the figures themselves. |
Quake Hold...

I avoid shelf diving two ways, first I keep most of the figures I have on display in cabinets that have doors. This keeps them from diving should they fall over, and it also keeps them from getting dusty. For the ones that are still in danger or seem particularly likely to have an issue, I use some Museum Putty/Quake Hold. It is almost like blue tack, but works better and is specifically designed not to damage or leave residue. You can get a package cheap on Amazon.

+1 for Museum Putty

I've never understood people who put large things or anything over their head while they are asleep that's just asking for it.
Things just fall sometimes nothing you can do about it, those certain places might just get more shaking than others. I have and end table I display figures on in my living room every other figure stayed still but one corner in ye back if I put something light in a few days just from normal walking it would turn in a circle. |

I never put anything over my bed, after a Gallao Thermometer fell off and struck me in the head while I was sleeping. Plus I live near Railroad and an Airport shaking is so normal. Almost weekly I need to right a toppled figure

Sounds like you could have some ghosts ..

UPDATE: as of recently no figures have taken a tumble from the billy shelf....
