My First Ever Custom

4 Attachment(s)
As the title says, this is my first ever custom. In fact, it is pretty much the first time I have ever painted anything. I decided to take it slow for my first attempt and just repaint a figure straight from the package. This worked out great since I wanted to paint up my extra GotG wave Nova as a Green Lantern, effectively creating an amalgamation of two of my favorite characters.

I have not gotten up the nerve to try sculpting yet so he is missing any Lantern emblems or a Lantern ring. Maybe once I am more comfortable with everything I will go back and make some revisions.

The forumla:
Marvel Legends GotG wave Nova base figure
Flat Black base coat over everything but the skin tone
Gloss Black for the black pieces
(I wanted semi-gloss but nobody around me carries it. Definitely ordering online in the future)
Silver for the armor pieces and beneath the green pieces
Clear Green over the silver for the green pieces

It definitely has some flaws and I need to invest in a better photo setup for the future but I could not be happier with my first attempt.

I also have to give huge thanks to ACCUSTOMFIGS. AC was awesome enough to let me run the idea past him a few months back. He gave me some great pointers and helped me nail down the paint choices. The figure never would have turned out this well without his help. Thanks again AC!

Thanks for taking the time to look. I appreciate any feedback.

Looks good. There are tutorials out there that will help you with customizing. Everything from how to paint to sculpting. Don't be afraid to tackle that sort of stuff. No one who ever got into this hobby was an expert on their first try. A lot of it is trial and error and practice.

Looks sharp. Better than a lot of factory jobs. I'd buy it. :D

Nice job, Kirathis. The green highlighting between the seams provides a satisfying visual touch. Additionally, the parallels between the 'Lantern corps' and 'Nova corps' make your amalgam a thoughtful one. Your first effort reminded me of how much I liked Thorion, the only Marvel/DC amalgam I felt made sense...of course, until now!:thumbs

Keep it cosmic! Marvel or DC...

Great job, Kirathis! Always cool to hear someone jumping into customizing... prepare to see your toys in a whole new way my friend. =)

Yes!

Looks great my friend. You give me too much credit. I'm really pumped to see what comes next!

Cool. Nice job.

Something that I have found works for me, but I rarely see it use don larger that 25mm figs, using a wash to help pickout some details. If you just thin out paint, it will still have the water tension and not flow right. Add in a few drops of future floor wax and it spreads right out. very thin reddish brown can work great on flesh areas.

All depends on if you want a straight paint job, or one that has more depth and or weathering. Its the opposite of dry brushing, as that brings out the highlights
