DC launching new super hero girls toyline, dolls, and LEGO
I don't know if this is news or not but I saw this story and I know dolls aren't exactly a common topic here but given that there is a DC action figure line and lego involved it might be worth mentioning.
WB and DC Entertainment in Partnership with Mattel Launch 'DC Super Hero Girls' | DC Comics It looks like Mattel is launching their first action figure for girls line as well as dolls, probably similar to the monster high/ever after high line. The story also mentions lego sets which will probably be like the friends/elves line. |
Interesting. Strange character mix. I would expect something along the lines of costumed Betty and Veronica and Friends, thick with political correctness and glib moralism. It will probably find a market, but I wonder if today's girls aren't looking for something with more grit. Time will tell.
Even as a little kid, I never had much patience for saccharine-sweet stuff. I resented the attempt to reboot a warmer, fuzzier version of Looney Tunes with the hard plot edges removed. Blech. You could say that I refused to get with the Program. Rgds |
Thanks for the heads up. It may ultimately be something we don't keep up on after launch, but the announcement is worth sharing for sure.

My Little DC?
DC now stands for Dinx Club? PowerStuff Girls? Sign me up! I think it's a fabulous idea. After all the gender blundering that New 52 has managed to stir up, maybe this will be the steak for that black eye. Plus, those potential outfits are too adorable and can be easily replicated for Halloween for little girls who want to dress up like a superhero. |
I applaud Mattel for at least trying to appeal to girls with DC characters.
|
So now girls too can know what it's like to play with immovable figures!
|
guess they figured if they were going to let Mattel make DC stuff they might as well make something they're actually "good" at, toy for little girl.

Respecting character canon, how could children with such disparate backgrounds be brought together? Kara Zor-El was on Kandor until her late teens; Diana Prince grew up on a remote Greek island; Pamela Isley got her Ph. D. before she went over the deep end and started murdering people, though her psychopathy may have manifested earlier. (Maybe they'll depict her playing with Venus Flytraps?) Barbara Gordon didn't start emulating Batman until she finished her college Criminology program, and only got to fight crime for about three years before Joker shot her in the abdomen, leaving her paralyzed. I guess the decision is being made to ignore canon. |
I can see DC totally screwing this up, just like when they released TEEN TITANS GO with a Starfire made for preteen girls at the same time as the New 52 Starfire who was a sex machine aimed at pervy old men and 13 yr old boys.
