Optimus Prime Classic - the $9 custom

I have to tell ya, although I absolutely love my Classics, I've always really disliked Classics Prime. I could tell you all the reasons, but there's enough to fill up an entire thread of its own. Classics is my chance to have a display that finally looks (mostly) like the cartoon from back in the day, so that was my goal with this Prime, which is why I left the stripes off of the arms.

I've been looking for a replacement that's roughly the same size for a long time. I saw a thread where a fellow radicon head swapped Classics Prime with a KO, and it looked much better. I found what looked to be the same on Ebay and bought it for $9. Upon arrival, I discovered not only is the head the correct size, but this oversized Robot Masters KO was a perfect replacement...once he received a new paint job, that is! I wanted my CHUG Prime to be the same size as Megatron, and this is a perfect fit.

Now, granted, the truck mode is somewhat....lacking. He looks a little odd around the hips. But, really, other than that, those are the only two complaints I really have, compared to the 30 or so I had with the classics mold.

Painted with Dupli Color Enamels. The ax was hand painted silver, then clear yellow, then some light brushing around the edges with clear orange with Testor's MMA. Everything thats silver was painted black, then drybrushed. I added some light wear around the feet and hands, and a tiny bit on the torso. I shaved down the pegs holding in his hands so they could slide up farther into the forearm, as they looked a little long prior to the surgery. I added a jewel to the inside of the gun barrel. Finally a repro labels symbol finished the project.

I've been holding off Transformers for the longest time trying to do Black series and the upcoming new 52 figs, but damn…. You made me want a Prime lol
