Star Wars BS 6" Force Awakens Stormtrooper In Color

Star Wars The Force Awakens Black Series Stormtrooper - The Toyark - News

Pretty cool.. Count me in for a couple. I know a lot of people like the classic stormtrooper.. I've never been a big fan of the design, but I think this takes that classic design and modernizes it, which in turn makes it more appealing to me.

What goes on in the mind of the person who bids >$150 for a loose figure when he could pay retail for one Mint-In-Box in a few weeks?

Starscream99 05-26-2015 10:04 PM

Looks good! I'll take a few.

Ravenxl7 05-26-2015 10:10 PM

Looks good. I really like the look of the new helmets, so I might pick this up. Should be interesting to see who all they do, and how they turn out.

Haha I'd like to know as well.

I've often wondered as well. I think exclusivity may be one reason. You will have something nobody else has and really, it's one of a kind and all that jazz. I could see the point if this was for charity or something. Unfortunately it's not.

It's currently been bid up to over $200. Not that I ever would, but piggybacking on what aladdinsane said, I know one reason why a select few people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for these: for early review samples. There's one guy over on marvelousnews in particular who buys these early leaks in order to be the first to review the figures.

Some do it just so that they can be first to have something. Back in 2007 I think, someone paid $250 for a tiny Transformers movie Legends figure test shot. To each their own.

I think the design for this figure is cool but as with the regular Stormtrooper, I will be disappointed if the thigh armor hinders hip articulation. That's what I hate most about BS6 figures, hindered articulation.

Don't know if any one has checked recently, this figure is currently going for $1,000

Man, I am speechless. I'm sure being advertised here caused the number of bidders to skyrocket, but never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that it'd climb to $1000. I explained this to my girlfriend sitting next to me and told her how basically they're just paying for the privilege of having something early that they could literally get a few months later for $20. She just said, "Some people have the money to burn." That is probably a big part of it. There are some very wealthy geeks out there. I don't understand it though. As a toy collector and geek myself, I've always prided myself on getting a good deal.

A sentiment obviously not so shared. For some people there must be that thrill of "Ha, I have it before anybody else!"

Ha I hope by the time the winner gets it, it will be out at retail already! :D

Skoob 05-28-2015 11:20 PM

"Early Adopter" (c/o Wiki)

I'm guessing that this kind of super-duper-collector belongs in the same class as the mega-nerd who pitches a tent outside the computer store and camps out for days to be first in line for the latest I-Gadget. The price may seem absurd to you and me, but value is like beauty, very much in the eye of the beholder. The price paid is a direct measure of that collector's passion. From his/her perspective, Being First is worth the money. To the extent that s/he indulges his/her passion, more power to him/her. Let's just hope that the bidder hasn't made unreasonable sacrifices in other parts of life.

Not willing to pay a thousand dollars for one (!), but not hating it either. All in good time.

ultraman zoffy 06-03-2015 11:37 AM

I'd like to think that most truly wealthy folks became wealthy by NOT making dumb decisions like this...

zim 06-04-2015 07:03 PM

rich folk who spend like that don't stay rich for long. I think there are people who believe that The Force Awakens is their original star wars movie release moment. These people will be buying merchandise thinking they are investing in their future. Just like there were are a bunch of people who thought DC's New 52 reboot who lead to a major pay day and bought up all the first issues. I guess the masses are buying into Disney's hype machine and will be buying up merchandise like there is no tomorrow. I am going to go the sept midnight release party just to see all the mayhem and get a few laughs. it's going to be fun!
