Mattel Applies For A New Dino Riders Toy Trademark

Last month we heard a rumor that Mattel is planning to revive the old Dino Riders toyline with a live action movie.

It so happens that Mattel has applied for a new Dino Riders toy trademark at the United States Patent And Trademark Office.
  • Mark: DINO RIDERS
  • Application Filing Date: Nov. 25, 2015
  • For: TOYS, GAMES AND PLAYTHINGS

Toy Fair isn't that far away. Perhaps we'll see something then, if even just logo art.

Harbinger 11-30-2015 10:18 AM

Oh i hope its good. I had all those toys as a kid.

T16skyhopp 11-30-2015 10:21 AM

please include reissues

Trivial Psychic 11-30-2015 10:38 AM

Oh god, this will put a strain on my wallet. These were my favorites as a kid...I had nearly all of them, including the Brontosaurus. Curious to see what they put out.

iLLest 11-30-2015 10:45 AM

I have 2 including this one mib. I loved these as a kid.

2 things
1.This show needs to make it to dvd.
2.I hope this is there way of saying we will be getting a new Dino Riders Cartoon.

Trivial Psychic 11-30-2015 01:00 PM

Monoclonius was one of my favorites, just below the Kentrasaurus and of course, the T-Rex.

Nexodusrex 11-30-2015 02:32 PM

It'll probably be some lame Preschool toy series

Truth. If DinoRiders ended up being something Imaginext-styled, it would still kick major tail.

Color me excited.

Shoot, the semi-recent "Dinosaur" themes have pretty much been a spiritual successor to Dino-Riders (or as close as we've seen in the past 20 some years).

Interesting to think that, adjusted for scale, many of the Dinos wouldn't be much bigger than some of the stuff we've seen in Hasbro's Jurassic World toyline

But I'm hesitant to get too excited, keep in mind Hasbro went and acquired a TON of trademarks over the years (including Inhumanoids and others) and in the case of Micronauts, Hasbro acquired rights and licenses in 2009, and we're only NOW seeing stuff about it in late 2015!

autoboty 12-01-2015 03:49 AM

I'd love to see those dudes duke it out with the Planet X's third party Dinobots. Sure, there's a quality discrepancy, but it's gonna be awesome.

I would rather it be like the Imaginext than having 5 poa figures with dinosaurs with less sculpted detail than the Imaginext ones.

mj3141x 12-01-2015 02:16 PM

I think this would be awesome. I think I only had one set as a kid but I'd definitely be interested in seeing what they might do with this.

Colder Soldier 12-01-2015 06:25 PM

It would be awesome if they were nothing but reissues.

Kirathis 12-01-2015 07:44 PM

Dino Riders were awesome. If they reissue these and M.A.S.K. my wallet is so screwed.

I hope you were referring to the Jurassic World line, and not the original Dino Riders line, because the original Dino Riders line's figures only had 7poa, but even so, they were fantastic, and both the figures and the dinos were sculpted way better than anything by Imaginext, or the more recent Jurrasic World for that matter.

The Imaginext toys are fantastic though, and are a great homage to the original. However like the saying goes, "imitation is the finest form of flattery."

I wish they would have kept that Jurassic Park line that released before Jurassic World going, the one with the Allosaurus and the 3.75" figures. Those were cool, and I regret passing on them while they were out.

Like someone said, it could be a while before we actually see anything in stores, but if when they do, I'll be there in front of the line, even if they are just re-issues...

Ninjinister 12-01-2015 11:25 PM

I loved the hell out of Dino-Riders, being a huge dinosaur junkie as a kid. I sent Mattel emails years ago asking for them to bring them back and never heard back. Sounds like that just may happen finally...

This is what I was wondering too and maybe someone who is more familiar with Mattel's business practices could answer this but it seems like Hasbro is buying or renewing IP partly so they can have access to these names if they do something with them but mostly so no one else can. Is it possible Mattel would do the same? Not necessarily to produce a line themselves but prevent someone else (like Hasbro) from buying yet another established toy line name?

And yeah, as already mentioned who knows what form this might take if it is released? It might not be what we are expecting. But if it is a throwback to the style of the old line that would be sweet to see them again.

Louise Belcher 12-05-2015 09:45 AM

Yes! all the cool toys from the 80's- early 90's are coming back! The only toy line that missing is Mighty Max, My elder brother owns a few and they're one of the most awesome toys ever made.

Yobuster 12-06-2015 11:05 PM

Speaking of 80s properties to get registered and coming back, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, Hasbro had filed for the MASK trademark and they had confirmed something was going to happen for 2016 right? They were going to show/talk about it at Toyfiar 2016 right? Or was it all just rumours?

M.A.S.K. was announced as a "new brand" and was displayed on their web page along with Micronauts as coming soon back in July of this year when Hasbro announced their second quarter reports. There have been rumors abound, but so far, they mostly center around the IDW comic properties, where M.A.S.K. is supposedly being integrated into the G.I.Joe continuity, while Micronauts will be slowly worked into the world of Transformers. M.A.S.K. in the past has been teamed with G.I.Joe (mostly in the form of the Agent Matt Trakker figure that teased co-existing universes) and it could be just what the sagging G.I.Joe line might need to revive interest. Yet again, these are all just rumors, but it could be an indication of things to come.

Another interesting note...Action Man was also announced as a new brand for Hasbro, yet, G.I.Joe was curiously left off the list of current brands. G.I.Joe was once called Action Man overseas, while there was a separate brand of 12" action figures called Action Man in the 90's, so one has to wonder, is this a re-branding of G.I.Joe, a return to 12" action figures, or an entirely new brand altogether?

As for new toys, M.A.S.K., Micronauts or otherwise, nothing has been announced or confirmed. While it's safe to say that it's always possible there could be a new reveal or announcement at Toy Fair, remember, that lots of stuff are shown off or announced at these shows that never hit the production line. Only time will tell.
