DC Bombshells Power Girl and Superman Statue
|
I like this statue and the larger series to which it's connected. Whomever sculpted this one, in particular, managed to create a respectable look for what is essentially a 'pin-up' style aesthetic. Pin-ups, by nature, represent a type of objectification of women. However, this one feels empowering, even more so than the Wonder Woman statue (another fav of mine). It reminds me, in a way, of Rosie the Riveter. Obviously, holding up Superman as the more nimble trapeze artist, conveys a position of strength for Power Girl. A strength that feels hauntingly familiar when one thinks of Rosie's iconic role within the feminist movement.
Meh, that's the opinion of one 'dude' and my sensibilities are definitely male skewed...some women might still look at this and consider her 'legginess' as an affront to their sensibilities...but I like it nonetheless. |
reminds me of this. which would be a way cooler statue lol

Yes. Yes indeed...it would be much cooler! |
Really digging this one. I've only bought the Catwoman so far and for something that could have been a lot more "exploitive", I'd say this Powergirl comes across way classier than I was expecting.
