I honestly can't believe NECA is making a figure out of this guy. wtf.

I genuinely find it hard to believe people want Texas Chainsaw toys that aren't just Leatherface. The other three big franchises (Nightmare on Elm st, Friday the 13th, and Halloween) each had at least one decent/good sequel but Texas Chainsaw Massacre was just one great horror and crap after that. Now I'm sure that the sequels have their followings from diehard fans but does that really mean this toy will sell? I get doing Leatherface from the other movies because his look changed and the quality of the films has nothing to do with wanting all the different looks. I'm not pretending to be a market analyst or anything I'm just voicing my confusion.

Dolemite 01-15-2016 01:57 PM

No, I completely agree with you. I've never been a Leatherface fan to begin with but I do recognize that the first movie is considered a classic by many. But the second movie (where Chop Top is from) has a bad rep even among Chainsaw fans. I like Bill Moseley (the actor who plays Chop Top) and all but this is a horrible idea for a figure; I can't see anyone beside a small diehard group of Chainsaw 2 fans (if they even exist) buying it.

A casual collector or kid unfamiliar with Jason, Freddy or even Leatherface might randomly see one of their figures on the shelf and think it's cool-looking enough to pick up on a whim, but I predict Chop Top will peg warm like crazy. Luckily the Mego-style figures are cheaper to produce as they all use the same body and just need new heads and clothes, but this is still an odd choice in that regard as NECA regularly declines to make more popular figures citing the fact that they won't sell.

Badmoonrising4 01-15-2016 03:53 PM

I love the movies and all but this is a weird choice. I'll admit that I'll be buying him though. I'm not a diehard for that particular film, so I guess I'm just a little crazy.

Joe Moore 01-15-2016 06:36 PM

I like Chainsaw 2. :(

Well it was the best of the sequels and forget about that remake crap. I guess it's just a lot easier with the other franchises to find a sequel that in some way stands out even when it's not as good as the original. Nightmare on Elm st 3 really cemented Freddy as fun and inventive, for Friday the 13th I choose part 6 for introducing zombie Jason and having some (I thought) tongue-in-cheek kills, and Halloween 2 was an okay follow up (I really can't remember anything distinct about those films past 3). Tastes differ and while I only have room in my heart for the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre I'll admit that Chop Top himself was a nice addition to the batshit crazy family and this toy is going to be a real treat for fans who aren't cranky like me.

I agree. It has nothing on the F13 or NOES follow ups. And I abhore both the remake and its pre-sequel. But I found the wildly different tone and grotesque humor of TCM2 struck a cord with me.

There's always fun to be had with some dark humor. I actually remember reading up on it once and seeing how TCM2 was created by Tobe Hooper as a parody on another movie that parodied the first TCM. Even the first TCM has scenes that are meant to be funny in their own bizarre way, particularly coming to mind is when Leatherface and his brother try helping their grandfather to kill Sally with the hammer and he can't even hold it. Sure it's pretty f**ked up on paper but the futility of the action is a bit funny. I think a good dose of humor can really help sell such a dark concept.

Are we forgetting that the TCM remake has Jessica Biel at the peak of her hottness running around in a tight, white tank top the entire movie? I mean, damn.

She doesn't save the remake. Though McFarlane did make a toy of her.

So I signed up on the forums for the sake of argument. Lol I've been following this site for a long time and would like to say thanks to Joe for the all the great toy news over the years. Really loved the recent week of Neca.

As far as Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is concerned...there is a huge cult following for this movie. It's the reason Bill Mosely is a semi household name today. He made his own spoof movie called the Texas Chainsaw Manicure. He played the Hitchhiker from the original spot on and Tobe Hooper loved it. So he was cast as the part of the hitchhikers brother, ChopTop, in TCM2. I personally love this movie. I think I've watched it more times than the original just because of the black humor. The scenes between ChopTop and the old man (Drayton) are classic. "It's a hit! It's a smash! It's what the people want! It's Nam-land!! Napalm!!!"

Also, I wonder if he'll come with his brother? Nubbins.

NECA Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 Chop Top Retro Figure - The Toyark - News

TCM 2 is epic. I had the Mezco figure of Chop Top. I was gonna get Bill Mosely to sign it but my plans for Texas Frightmare fell through so I yanked him right out of the plastic with no regrets whatsoever. I sold it loose for over $50 and that part I REALLY regret. It was quite awesome. I'm all in for more Chop Top, whatever I can get.

Hell, I'll take a McConaughey figure with his battery-powered leg.

evilekim 05-04-2016 08:32 PM

This is the same company that made Tall Man, Bubba Ho-Tep, American Psycho, Donnie Darko(Frank) Lost Boys, and other strange characters. The Cult Classics line was a hit amongst horror and more adult classic movie fans. Chop Top is another strange character, but I like the risk. This is honestly a breath of fresh air for collectors wanting to see these charcters return to Neca's lineup.

Dolemite 05-04-2016 09:41 PM

I still think this is a wacko move on NECA's part, but if there are people out there who want to buy Chop Top, more power to them. Besides, this may actually open up the doors for more obscure characters to be made into figures, which can't be a bad thing.

Man, I'm going to have to get 3 of these. One to display with each look, and one to keep in package, which is some of the best I've seen. It's high art and compliments the badass figure nicely.
