Hell, still probably going to pick this up anyway. But it would have been nice to at least have gotten an angry/determined headsculpt here for Rey.
She looks like she's waiting in line at the dmv, not in a fight for her life.

Trivial Psychic 03-02-2016 10:52 AM

Oh look, another Black Series Exclusive that will be impossible to find, because KMart doesn't know how to stock actual product. I have yet to run into any of the Black Series Exclusives thus far from any of the stores (KMart, Ealmart, or TRU,) with the exception of the Stormtrooper/Poe Dameron two pack, which is more than likely because it's higher price tag caused it to languish a bit longer on the shelf. Target also does a better job with it's exclusives than all of these combined.

I think Target and TRU tend to do the best (though I know your local TRU particularly sucks from your previous posts) because it's like they know that the figures are their exclusives so they like to have their own stuff in stock. I can't think of many (if any) TRU or Target exclusives from the main toy companies (Hasbro or Mattel) that I didn't eventually see in store. Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or other stores like that though seem unaware of what's exclusive to them or not and just stock what they have if they even choose to stock anything at all. Hell Walgreens is more on top of getting its exclusives and they just started really selling toys comparatively.

The headsculpts are the weakest thing about many of the Black Series figures. Take Luke and compare him to, say, the SH Figuarts Luke and you can see a world of difference. Still, I want a Rey with her lightsaber and it doesn't seem like Mafex or Bandai is doing one any time soon, so I'm going to have to try and get my hands on this one.

Isn't Rey difficult to find as it is because Hasbro barely makes any toys of her? And now this one is an exclusive. Man, I'm glad I don't collect Star Wars toys. If I did, I'd go nuts.

She hasn't been THAT hard to find but she's only been in like two or so revision cases so she's not anywhere near abundant and then to top it off she's rather demanded what with being the movie's main character and all. I've seen a decent amount of the 6" Rey in person but they don't stick around like toys of Finn do but online she doesn't seem to be much of a hassle to get. I gotta say I'm a little bummed that they're doing this (even though it's to be expected since they did the Kylo) because doing this seems like Hasbro won't be making the end of the movie outfit Rey with Lightsaber anytime soon.

The only time I saw a Starkiller Base Kylo Ren was in a Wal-Mart in Mexico...and honestly I wasn't that impressed. As for seeing one in the USA, I guess it'd help if I lived there...It'll probably end up that some consignment store in Canada will get a whack load of Starkiller Base Kylos and Reys in a few months time...without K-Mart or Wal-Mart in Canada, that's really our best and only hope.

No Kmart or Walmart in Canada? Another win for Canada. Free healthcare, national medical marijuana, AND no Walmart or Kmart? Lucky!!!

I will pick this up to go with my K-Mart Kylo Ren, I like that the extra ice chunk. I was not aware the Kylo was hard to find, I remember it being well stocked in the one K-Mart I have over the last few months, and I know it was available on K-Mart.com for a while.

Aquaman 03-03-2016 09:59 AM

Dear manufacturers,

Evercore ISI says Sears Holding is no longer viable as a retailer. Giving exclusives to a company in this poor of shape is just being a dick to your customers. Nothing will bring Sears/Kmart back. It will drown in debt in a year or two to the point of 100% asset liquidation.

Sincerely,
Everybody

PS Have you even looked at a Kmart toy aisles lately? It's like the overpriced, open box, crime scene capital of the world.

That is IF you even have a K-mart near you! All K-mart within 50 miles of my house are out of business already! I think that's why things are "well stocked" in the few that are left in this country, there just isn't enough K-marks to ship things to. I remember wanting to order the Starkiller base Kylo Ren near Christmas time, but never saw it online and as soon as it appeared, it was "out of stock". But maybe that's just me.

Shadowknight1 03-03-2016 05:02 PM

K-Mart re-upped the page for pre-orders! I went ahead and ordered it. Now expecting to see an announcement for an SH Figuarts or Mafex Rey. lol

Trivial Psychic 03-03-2016 11:59 PM

@alladinsane: Awesome handle...someone's obviously a Friday the 13th fan...;P

@Aquaman: Lol...So true. Hit it right on the head with everything.

There's plenty of Walmart stores in Canada, all with McDonald's in the front entrance. And just like the healthcare and everything in Canada, the stuff isn't free and is really overpriced because there's almost no competition. But at least they have Justin Bieber and other "famous" communists. ;)

retrojunkie 03-09-2016 06:36 PM

The Rey looks cool and all but New Hope Luke Skywalker in the Black Series looks much much cooler

Canada has lots of Wal-Marts. I think what Alladinsane meant to say is that Canadian Wal-Mart stores have NO BLACK SERIES IN STOCK. My town has 3 Wal-Mart superstores, and I haven't seen any Black Series figures on display since Wave 2. (We don't have K-Marts, though.)

Wal-Mart Canada seems to be suffering store-wide from unprecedented trouble with lack of inventory and dwindling selection. I shop at Wal-Mart quite a lot, because inflation at independent grocers is getting terrible -- 20, 30, 40%+ depending on the item -- and Wal-Mart prices are usually cheaper by comparison due largely to aggressive purchasing and volume discounts, but lately, whole sections of aisles sit empty, and I leave with many items left on my shopping list. I suspect that lousy foreign exchange is an important reason: by shipping a product to Canada and selling in CAD$, you basically throw away 20-30% of the return you would make if you kept the product in the USA. Ergo, choking distribution to Canadian outlets is a sensible business decision, at least for now.

(I suspect that the National Hockey League pushes Canadian teams out of the playoffs for the same reason: seat, snack and merchandise sales are more profitable inside America.)

(Anecdotally, there are many parts of Canadian health care that are not 'free,' and the entire subsidized system is in crisis, overloaded and underfunded, so the new Prime Minister seems likely to pursue means-testing, fee-based services and some privatization in the near future. And marijuana is going to be regulated and taxed like liquor: Feds know a cash cow when they see one, and with the new leftist government tripling the rate of deficit spending, revenue is needed badly.)

Just found this at my Kmart. There was about four Kylo's and four Rey's Starkiller Base, got one of each. The bases don't match in paint but they do connect together to make the characters face off like the scene in the movie.

I will say the paint apps. on Rey were a bit cleaner than the regular Jakku Rey figure, conversely there were glaring paint mistakes on each figure to some degree. So I got the one with the least amount of blemishes, same for Kylo's lightsaber. Some were totally bent into a bow shape and few were straight... Picked the least bent saber version and got it home and set it up.

This has been my first post.

No luck at my Kmart today in Upstate New York. About 7 Kylo Bases and no Rey. #Where is Rey? :(

Edit: I will never understand the logic behind
Hasbro's marketing with Exclusives.

juggernaut209 04-25-2016 06:19 AM

I checked my local K-Mart on Friday, nothing but Avengers (2012) and wrestling figures. Checked again yesterday, and they had Rey on the shelf. They also had four Kylos and four Reys, perhaps that is the case pack. I nabbed one, there were still three more on the shelf in Fitchburg, MA if anyone is in the area.
