The 3.75" vs the 6 inch War!
 

Hi! I want this to be THE discussion thread for the battle between 3.75 inch vs 6 inch figures. I have seen manu different opinions on this, amd I wanted tostart a Marvel Legends collection, and I dont know whether to get 6 inch or 3.75! So i was wondering if you guys could state your opinion on the matter.

Honestly, get what appeals to you more. There's not a "war" to be had on collecting different scales. Hell, quite a few people dip into both scales.

I like getting the larger figures when they represent size changers because it is most often the only way to get them at larger size to the small figures.

Like others have mentioned there isn't really a war going on between the two scales.

But to answer your question, as someone who absolutely loves the 3.75" scale, go with the 6" stuff. I'll always love this scale but right now all of the 3.75" stuff have been kicked to the side by Mattel and Hasbro in favor of the 6" stuff. If you really want to get some quality figures just go the 6" route.

I still love the 3.75" stuff more than anything, though. Hasbro has recently started to breathe some life into the scale in terms of Marvel figures for the first time in a while, though.

As said above get what appeals to you. I like both to be honest. I am more partial to the 6 inch figures but I really also like the 3.75 figures because they work in well with other lines like Star Wars and GIJoe. No need to fight over it. Like what you like.

Personally, I like the 6 inch figures cause they remind me of the 5 inch ones I had growing up as a kid in the mid to late 90s. For me, 6 inch hits the perfect sweet spot between too little at 3.75 and too much at 12 in.

but there have been some fantastic 3.75 in figures, and they interact well with star wars and gi joe, which gives you access to things like vehicles. It's all just personal preference man.

Get what appeals to you in both scales. I personally collect 3.75 but they have been taking away from the articulation and 95% of the time have no accessories. And they have also jacked up the price to $13 which is only $7 less than a 6" and includes a piece to a BAF. I've been recently thinking about going with the 6" myself since they have so many nice figures coming out...

3.75 FOR ME. The vehicles for one. Then the larger figures LOOK larger too. Love it.

My thoughts exactly, but a pain to try and chase after the 6 inch ones now especially since some of them on the aftermarket the prices are way too high for my tastes.

I started collecting in an age where 6 inch had just started getting praised again, and I was told that 6 inch was better than the 3 3/4 inch figures that I had started collecting. So, I got myself some 6 inch figures, ready to accept them as a better scale and everything, and I found them to be...


Kinda meh. I still LIKE them, but I didn't get as satisfied with them as I did the 3 3/4 inch figures. It took me a few months, but I finally found out what the problem was:

THE 6 INCH FIGURES WERE BASICALLY LARGER 3 3/4 INCH FIGURES.

Seriously, only one of my 5 Legends figures has ever satisfied me in the way an MU does, and that one was the Odin Wave Hawkeye!

So, basic advice, try 3 3/4 inch first, form an opinion on them, and then get a few MLs. Once you have formed an opinion on both, decide your favored scale.

As a kid I collected gi joes that were 3.75 inch. When they came back out I eventually started to collect them. When hasbro started to make marvel characters the same size I paused. Then I realize it was a childhood dream come true. So I started to collect them along side the joes.

Damn shame how hasbro messed up both lines.

being with marvel legends for a long time now 6" is my main Scale
though i have bought 2 batmen that are slightly shorter the animated one and mafex. Smaller figures I didnt like the sound of MU some had limited articulation or detail. MLs have more of articulation due to height which might of made things easier.
either way i bought a figure because i like it , can be in 3.75" to 12" if i want it i shall try and get it.

I started collecting Marvel Universe when it was really picking up around 2010. At the time Legends was sort of a thing of the past and you almost never saw newer ones in stores, so I just sort of assumed that the prime scale for Marvel figures was 3.75". I invested an embarrassingly large amount of money in those little guys.

Then at some point a couple of years ago Hasbro decided to pull a reversal of fortunes and make the 6" line the front runner. This would have been fine for me if they wouldn't have also cut back the articulation, sculpt and paint quality of the smaller scale while simultaneously jacking up the price.

At this point I've basically given up on collecting Marvel. I can't justify $11+ for a McDonald's Happy Meal toy and there's no way I'm going to switch to the (admittedly superior) 6" scale this late in the game. My Marvel Universe stuff is boxed up and I've turned more towards other collecting projects. At the end of the day I think that Hasbro is 110% to blame for trying to make Legends the prime line while milking the MU collectors for whatever they can while they kill off our line.

Before I was collector I used to see the older Hasbro Legends line but only grabbed the ones that were my very favorite character, only cause they looked a bit weird. Only when I started seeing the 3.75 and how cool they looked to their comic predecessors did I start actually collecting more. But yeah the roles have somewhat reversed now and who knows the roles may reverse again where the 3.75 gets the limelight.

Mattel is being run by a bunch of morons. They have never had the success in this scale of Kenner's Star Wars or Hasbro's G.I. Joe, which is why I do not see Hasbro ever completely abandoning the 3.75 scale.

I think that the 6 inch scale is taking over now...MU was great once upon a time, but with Hasbro's lack of articulation, creativity, and overall style, I quickly lost interest in line and started to select figures on quality and not quantity. The 6 inch game is it now! Not only ML from Hasbro, but certain Marvel Select, S. H. Figurats, and others are trying to enter the 6 inch plus action figure market. This year will be a year where I will be adding figures to my ML collection other than Hasbro and Toybiz. And, it looks like that first figure might me an Iron man from the S. H. Figurats line...I got into the toy game mainly for the beauty and quality of my favorite Marvel Heros, and each passing year I look for figures that are more on the quality side, and some 6 inch figure manufacturers are really looking out for quality, where in some areas Hasbro is lacking...So for now, 6 inch is my thing, but I will still collect MU, especially the older figures in the line, and will cherry pick some of the newer figures in the line, as well...

just like the tide, it goes in and out.

collect what you like. beauty, taste, art, etc. is subjective to the individual. there is no "correct" scale because every collector is different in what that actually means.

Yes I agree with Bmorr. There s no "right" sized scale. Collect whatever pleases you....
That is, unless.... you decide to collect 6". Then you'd be wrong.
