while a really cool feature, filling these guys with just water would be rather disgusting in the long term. although I have no idea what alcohol or glycerin would eventually do to the plastic, hand sanitizer or even clear hand soap would be a much better choice so that it doesn't become fetid.

PLEASE GOOGLE THIS FIRST IF CURIOUS - I seem to recall PC modders using mineral oil to submerge their gaming machines. If that's right, it should work for these. Though no matter what you put in it you'd maybe want some sort of colouring going on, otherwise there may not be much benefit to just leaving it empty.

hand sanitizer has alcohol in it wouldn't be good for rubbery plastic.
