I always thought Bossk was very interesting looking. Being a Star Trek fan, he always reminded me of the Gorn. This figure, however, is the next level! Amazing...

Part of me feels like Bossk was made to one up the Gorn but also as a shout out to the Trek crowd. I still don't always understand the hostility between some fans of the separate franchises, same thing with the whole "Marvel vs DC" crap.

Didn't they already do this exact same figure a couple years back?

It says in the description that this is an upgrade to the 2012 release, mainly it sports a better and more accurate head sculpt.

I wonder though, if you already got the older one can you trade it in for a big discount on this one? Hot Toys are costly so it would be nice to imagine that they have some kind of system like that.

Somehow I doubt that, but they should at least do the new parts as a swap out pack or something.

If you bought the original you must be double kicking yourself that they not only came out with a better one but lowered your original's value.

You are probably right. I'm much more of a Trek fan, but I also dig Star Wars. The two were completely different vehicles given that Star Trek, as a t.v. show with many episodes, could do things (story-wise) that Star Wars could not. On the other side of the coin, Star Wars was grander in presentation as film series with higher production values. Since their origins, both have come much closer together. I do love razzing Star Wars fans, but in truth, I celebrate their 'wins' (great movies, toons, etc) all the same. My fanfare for Marvel and D.C. is much more evenly balanced. But I also enjoy ribbing Batman fans...because it's so easy! ;)

I consider Trek a much truer science fiction with some very cerebral elements consistently at play, Star Wars is a fantasy story set in a science fiction world so it is much easier for people to get into. With the Trek you have teleportation, time travel, superior cosmic entities (Q), matter materialization, and often heavy themes like racism, justice, or morality. With the Wars you have the force which is just magic, more colorful characters, and generally lighter (but no less poignant) themes focusing on good vs evil and redemption. Each is truly great but on different levels and from different approaches.

For what it's worth, I purchased the original back in 2013 for 150. A new head sculpt for 60$ doesn't hurt my feelings. I actually display mine with the alternate snarling sculpt that came with the original. No interest in selling him anytime soon either. I value him too highly. But folks that want the movie accuracy should be thrilled. Hope they release Dengar too....I know I'm in the minority there.

I couldn't have expressed it any better than you've laid out. To be fair though, had Star Wars been launched as a television serial, I think we may have seen some of the 'truer' scifi-fare (development of tech-concepts/introduction of real science). Additionally, 50 years of Trek provides a huge advantage in depth of story-telling and character/species (ie: Vulcans, Klingons, Romulans, Ferengi, etc) development. I think the extended canon of Star Wars, t.v. shows like Rebels, deliver 'meatier' human-interest stories than what has been enjoyed in the films. It's harder to compare the the two original vehicles given the platform/venue of release and target audiences (one being aimed at niche adult-scifi-television viewers and the other targeting a larger array of fantasy fans of all ages). But in the here and now, many more direct comparisons can be made between the two well-heeled licenses. May both universes live long and prosper...and hopefully...never cross-pollinate, because Trek would rule Wars!! ;)

Bossk has been my favorite bounty hunter for a while, and I'm hoping we see more of him the the extended movie universe. So naturally, I really, really, REALLY want this, but that is a steep price. Not sure if I can follow through with it.
