This is one of those really cool obscure sets that come out that I love so much. Probably won't buy it but this is just really cool.

Joe Moore 07-16-2016 12:56 PM

I just wish the eyes on Superman weren't closed/squinting. I love the comic style coloring and they nailed the ink lines on Superman. Also think Ali looks really cool.

Pass

305Batman 07-16-2016 01:04 PM

Superman's all like "cut me mick"!

deecee4 07-16-2016 01:22 PM

not a fan of the faux inked comic art paint app but its pretty cool still. and clever reuse of parts as well.

Wonderful Toys 07-16-2016 01:59 PM

I wonder how many will have a problem with that? I mean, this essentially is the Reeve Superman with a new head sculpt. I could see people complaining that the symbol and the boots aren't like they are in the comics.

The Heat 07-16-2016 02:06 PM

Is that supposed to be Jimmy Carter in the front row? On that note, can we get a NECA Jimmy Carter figure while we're at it?

Dolemite 07-16-2016 02:47 PM

Well, this is really fucking unexpected. It better come with a reprint of the original comic!

The audience on the comic's cover is actually filled with 70's era celebrity cameos...it has a guide inside listing who's who. It's a fun cover.

MUfan97 07-16-2016 03:45 PM

...Tempting.

I mean, I was never really a boxing fan(even though my parents have always been really into the Rocky movies), so I don't know much about Ali(only sport star I really like in anyway is John Cena, and that's because of the meme), thus adding a bit of hesitation, but at the same time, it's a tribute to comic book silliness with a VERY interesting deco, so I might pick it up.

SpasticPlastic 07-16-2016 04:01 PM

I think this is awesome. The closed eyes are pretty close to the actual art. They're just black lines on the cover, albeit a little thicker than the figure. But, they do look a little off. Maybe just a touch too high on the face. I think if they'd lower them a smudge, they'd look a lot better.

Skoob 07-16-2016 05:12 PM

Holy cow! If they do another version with more realistic paint, I'll be all over it!

donmeca2020 07-16-2016 05:13 PM

And i literally just met neal a week or so ago when he signed a comic of mine. yea i think i wouldn't mind one of these. im sure the ring is not included though...

OGTrilogy 07-16-2016 09:57 PM

That is fantastic! I definitely want one of these!

JokerArkham 07-17-2016 12:12 AM

loving this set :D definitely want it

Dolemite 07-17-2016 09:49 AM

Spoiler alert: They fight around a red sun to even the odds and Ali beats the living shit out of Superman.

MPT 07-17-2016 10:20 AM

NECA is definitely blowing Mattel out of the water; especially with the Superman soft goods cape. Now where's my Bale Batman 2.0 7"?

Every company blows Mattel out of the water.

VashTS 07-17-2016 10:43 AM

Fantastic but I do wish for a buffer body. But this is a nice figure non the less. Shame no double joints. Looks great and a must buy no matter.

What Scale

What scale is this going to be?

Action Figures 07-17-2016 12:41 PM

nevermind

Nevermind... I read the Nerdist article. 7" it is. A bit unusual for a comic pack but it was originally an oversized comic and Neca certainly isn;t bound by the way Hasbro does things.

Everything NECA does is either 7" scale or 1/4 scale unless the license wouldn't work well in either scale (such as the Gremlins, Little Big Planet, or the upcoming Child's Play), Mego style figures withstanding since they are not regular plastic figures but dolls and have always been around 8" tall. For whatever exact reason most of the collectible figure companies use the 7" scale (NECA, DC Collectibles, Diamond Select Toys, some Funko, old McFarlane and now McFarlane again) whereas companies that appeal to a wider audience (Hasbro or Mattel) seem to prefer the 6" scale.

Pravus Prime 07-17-2016 07:46 PM

If Superman comes with regular hands, I will be quite interested in this set.

DetectiveFork 07-17-2016 07:49 PM

I'm surprised that NECA can license and release a Superman figure. I thought only Mattel and DC Direct could do that.

I love the concept of this. I just wish Supes wasn't so slender. He looks deflated.
