Man, I love all the pics you guys take on here. How'd you get the great Contra backdrops, and in a good scale? I not only appreciate all the pics of the packaging and various angles of the figures but love all the cool lighting and diorama and displays you guys do here. Wish I could pull this off, have a heck of a time finding backgrounds that look good let alone in the right scale.

I had to composite them together from multiple game screen shots. Glad you like them. Was a blast to shoot, especially with the red Alien Queen.

Man, composite them together? Sounds like it requires some math, bummer! Love the Genocide Red Queen and all the face hugger eggs, now I want an Alien/Contra game crossover!!

Not too much math, just some patience and lining up pixels, and then removing any characters that were on screen. A little time consuming, but I enjoy doing that stuff.

Man, you keep outdoing your ass on these photo shoots, Joe. Fantastic work.

BTW, what's the story with the heads? I mean, in the game one is blue with a red headband and the other is red with a blue headband. Why would Konami insist on having the heads incorrectly reversed like this?

Wow, those pics came out great...very striking!

One thing I wanted to point out..
"The front of the box has the iconic box art, featuring near rip-offs of Predator’s Dutch, John Rambo and an Alien Xenomorph."

The character of Lance is based on Rambo but, his depiction on the cover art is based on Dutch-both of them are actually.

I'm not sure. Randy gets flustered every time he talks about the hell with Konami. They apparently insisted on all kinds of goofy things, and it almost got this set cancelled, and did get the Castlevania NES Belmont cancelled.

The pose/outfits for the cover were based on Arnold, but it was clearly meant to evoke an Arnold and Rambo team up.

I want to think I heard that the heads are based on the box cover art not the in game models.

Could be. They're definitely not based on the gameplay sprites, as the hair color is completely different.

Oh shit, I forgot about the Belmont figure. Although that thing was absolutely f'in hideous, so it's probably for the best it got canned.

Dude this is really amazing. So hard to find things like this. I will post some pics once my set arrives and these backgrounds will make them look so legit!

Fantastic pictures. Smart to use that red alien queen. Works surprisingly well.

No problem. Most of the time, I'm just using movie screen caps (sometimes edited a bit based on my need) or abstract stuff. The final level background took some work though.

Thanks. And as soon as I heard about the Contra set, I had those shots mapped in my head with the Red Queen.

I bet it's a colossal pain to hand paint the pixilated protos. seemingly easy, until you go completely mad.

Eh, to each their own. Sorry if you're bummed. It bugs me that there are figures out there that got cancelled that'll never see the light of day. For example, SOTA Toys had a line of Darkstalkers figures that got canned that looked very promising.

Also throwing in a big thx for the Contra backgrounds. I'd like to do something like that for Bioshock, like a Rapture glass tunnel background.

These are so nostalgia inducing, I love it. Trying to resist....
