Marvel ONCE again down in sales..

While i'm a fan of BOTH marvel and DC, i've seen some incorrect info posted, when it pertains to current sales and certain said popularity of certain marvel characters. Below is a link of info to a A CURRENT Bestseller list. give it a read, i find it mighty interesting.

Not surprised. Marvel is in need of their own Rebirth.

Im posting this to prove to our "fellow" legend collectors. Marvels current line up of titles are sucking big time. And for the few that say kamala kahn is "hot" the people saying that are either misinformed or full of you know what... lol

You might try reading and understanding the data you post before jumping to conclusions, and insulting other people. I'd also be very careful before calling anyone misinformed when you weren't even aware Ms Marvel was still an ongoing title.

First, it's sales data from a handful of stores affiliated with Bleeding Cool, not industry wide sales data.
Quote:

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday.
If you take the industry data from Diamond for the latest month avialable (November 2016) then the top ten titles are :

Batman 10 (DC)
Batman 11 (DC)
Civil War II 7(Marvel)
Invincible Iron Man 1 (Marvel)
Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows 1 (Marvel)
Batman Annual 1 (DC)
Venom 1 (Marvel
Walking Dead 160 (Image)
IVX 0 (Marvel
5 Marvel, 4 DC, 1 Image. If you take the top ten trades for the same month It's Marvel 6 DC 3. This is total print copies sold to retailers, not just what a handful of retailers report sells.

Second, to address Ms Marvel specifically, you misunderstood the argument completely. Ms Marvel dominated digital sales according to Marvel and Comixology for well over a year and tweets from G Willow Wilson and Sana Amanat have implied she continues to do so, but I'm not trawling through a years worth of tweets to find those. Her titles print sales have only ever been average, her significance is she was the first mainstream comic to more than double her print sales through digital, usually its a 10% boost or something. Sales of Ms MArvel trades are also routinely on the NYT bestseller list.

Third, no one is saying she is Marvels best selling print title, that is you misunderstanding the discussion. She is, however, one of Marvels most popular new characters, with a book whose digital sales were unprecedentedly high.
In other words, she is popular, and the fact a few people who haven't read her comic don't see what the fuss is about doesn't change that.

It is true, though, that DC are doing very well at the moment. Which is good because they have been doing very poorly for the last few years,

Edit: Actually it seems DCs Rebirth boost faltered in November:
Marvel Dominates DC Comics In November 2016 Marketshare – Normal Service Resumed?
Quote:

Marvel Comics was November’s top publisher with a 38.08% dollar share and a 39.46% unit share. That’s up yet again, three points from October’s marketshare of 35.89% and a 36.58%. And eight to ten points up on September’s of 31.1% and 30.75%

DC Entertainment was the month’s number two publisher with a 26.17% dollar share and a 31.30% unit share. Dropping below 30% for the first time since Rebirth. In October, they were 30.70% dollar share and a 34.76% unit share and in September on 39.27% and 44.59%. That’s an insane drop of thirteen points in two months.

I'll do a little research for you, now don't go and make me repost what you and whoever the other guy was about her being "hotter" and or "bigger" then deadpool and Amazing Spider-man because what you guys said is COMPLETELY asinine.

November 2016 sales for comics the MOST current sales figures reported by Diamond comics distributors before you go and say this isn't accurate or a real source......

Comic Book Sales Figures for November 2016

Hottest selling book for that month was from marvel. here's the rankings as well.....

3 Civil War II 7 $4.99 Marvel 116,447

115 Ms Marvel 13 $3.99 Marvel 23,621

Ranking at #115 and only selling 23,621 copies isn't exactly "hot" now...

As far as me being "uninformed" about her, it's because she's not relevant at all.... I think you should be very careful before saying she's Marvel's bread and butter because judging by these sales numbers SHE AINT....

For a side gig that i like to do on my free time, i collect for pleasure and i also sell CGC graded comics, i only send in books that people actually would pay for and i have yet to see on any of my speculation sources that any issues from ANY of her series are hot... sorry to tell you that. maybe if you researched harder you wouldn't have been so delusional.

lordbest 01-04-2017 09:29 PM

What you need to do is calm down and actually think about what people are saying and the data presented.

No one said she was hotter or bigger than Deadpool or Spider-man, I said she was possibly Marvels biggest new character SINCE Deadpool.

I've said repeatedly, and here is where you need to start paying attention, that Ms Marvel is big because her DIGITAL sales are higher than her print sales. Citing her print sales alone as evidence she isn't popular is ignoring the very thing that makes her popularity special. She was the FIRST comic title to more than double her print sales with digital sales, and her trades are bestsellers.

No, you're just uninformed and trying to cover that fact by projecting your indifference to her onto the fandom as a whole. You tried to argue MS Marvel wasn't popular because she didn't have an ongoing comic when she did. You even misrepresented the data you presented to imply Marvel were losing market share to DC which is also false. You can't get much more uninformed than that. I never said she was Marvels bread and butter, you need to stop making things up.

You are one person, a largely irrelevant one person. Any data you have regarding comic sales i irrelevant vs industry data and information provided by Marvel.

I'm not going to reply again, your arguments are baseless and you clearly have no interest in the facts, I have better things to do with my time.

You yourself said in numerous posts have been going on and on about her being the "biggest hit" and so fourth. my posts are baseless because i don't have facts posted that i just showed you? just because you Like the character doesn't mean she's the next deadpool.... sorry to break it to you. poor sales numbers usually equal a 15 issue run and then that's it. bring this up again when she gets a movie, cartoon or any comic of hers is worth more then $3 bucks.....

here's your original post after i stated i was selling her on the legends thread.

Relax guys, take a breather, and with that not surprised Marvel is starting to lose out, heck the X-Titles used to be on the list of top 10 comics but not any more since it really does seem like they're trying to kill them off the way FF is...

Im still marvel fan, however most titles have been doing poorly including with all their character changes. While im sure some like the changes, longtime fans are being swayed away from some titles. Im one of them as well.

Yeah I haven't been following the Marvel comics in a while, don't even bother checking out the synopsis of it either. Like you was a big fan of the comics and agree the character swapping of names and what not kind of annoyed me, and doesn't seem to help with their sales...

I don't want to start another argument here, but going by market share Marvel's approach seems to be working for them:

If they are losing veteran fans in significant numbers they are more than replacing them with new fans.

I have been a big fan of Hulk since back in the day with all his different personality changes, from savage, to mr fix-it, to professor hulk, to the just recent from about 2 years ago Doc Green storyline. I believe it was called Omega Hulk. Anyways the minute he disappeared and all of a sudden we have "totally awesome hulk". I stopped buying....

To be fair i believe it's good even great for changes in comics, whether its the characters appearance, personal life etc. However turning with gender, sexual orientation, or even ethnicity and still keeping the classic heroes names not only is it a complete cluster you know to continuity, it's a slap in the face even an insult to the collectors who've been collecting forever....

If you read this past batman story arc Superheavy, batman was gone for almost 6 months, jim gordon took his place. The story was interesting, kept people on their toes but at the end of it, bruce wayne came back reclaimed the mantle and saved the day. Thats was great, abit of character change, and at the end the iconic hero returned. This is not the same with a plethora of marvel titles. They're just keeping everything this way..
