Friday The 13th Part 4 Ultimate Jason
|
Sigh....
After the last ultimate, this one ultimately feels like a waste of time, as there will be little difference between this one and the part 3D figure outside of headsculpt and a different colored pair of pants, and most likely a nifty box. They should just release a series of accessory packs back like they did with the Aliens and Predator series. Roy, Pamela, or any Hodder Jason at this point NECA, please? You're just treading water with this line now. Or better yet, give us a two pack similar to the Ripley/Newt set featuring the final battle with Tommy Jarvis. That would be a guaranteed seller with Friday fans! |
Now this Jason I might buy. The Final Chapter is my favorite movie in the franchise and features to me Jason at his finest. It's also funny that I see this announcement the very moment I'm uploading my review for The Final Chapter as I type this. :-D

The corkscrew is fun, however. Now all we need is a Crispin Glover figure to use it on, lol. |
Part 4 has a different torso, shirt, mask, and hands as well as all different accessories
If you know Jason you would realize that Part 3 had a wider hunchback unique to him. Many details are different between part 3 and 4 and many fans want Part 4 back out. As the saying goes - if you don't like it don't buy it Quote:

I'm quite aware that the original Final Chapter figures (which I own all of) had alterations in the head, neck, torso and hands, most of which were extremely subtle (especially the torso...) but were indeed different from those same features of the Part 3 figures (which I also own all of.) I also know that Ted White was a method actor in his approach to Jason, who spent very little time interacting with the rest of the cast while on the set unless he was in costume. He was also deeply ashamed of his role as Jason initially and asked not to be credited in the film, and he nearly quit the film altogether due to the awful treatment of Judie Aronson, who developed hypothermia during a scene in which White was supposed to kill her while she lied naked on an inflatable raft. But whatever...I guess I don't know anything about Jason. The point that you missed due to you choosing to nitpick details and throw insults, is that the figure still feels like a missed opportunity due to the fact that it is a re-hash (or as the original working title to Part 5 was known as "Repetition") of something we've already received. The most casual of fans won't notice fine details like slightly longer fingernails, missing chevrons, and an unbuttoned bottom button on his shirt to seperate this upcoming figure from the previous Ultimate figure. It will be to them, literally, nothing more than a reissued Jason with a different headsculpt and a different colored pair of pants. This point feels a bit intensified when there is a slew of looks and appearances for Jason that we've yet to receive, or have already received in the 8 inch MEGO scale as opposed to the standard 7 inch one that many of us primarily collect. I find it disheartening that there are already more Ash Figures from the Evil Dead line than there are for Jason, and Jason has been in more films than Ash and his line has had an even lengthier head start. As for part 4 being the one that everyone wanted put back out...I'm not sure what pool of fans you've been interviewing, because around here, it's been quite the opposite. Around here, Part 7 Hodder has been by far the most requested look for Jason for a number of years now, but if you showed up more than 8 times a year, you would have known that. It would also do you well not to insult fans for giving constructive criticisms or for knowing when to call a spade a spade. If anything, it should make you a bit happy that fans feverishly care so much about your projects, that we're willing to spend as much time as we do praising, speculating, fantasizing (or for that matter, bitching...) about them on a web forum. And time well spent. By the way...did you know that Part 8 was only film in the original Friday the 13th series to NOT feature a stalled car? Or that the first time we see Jason as an adult in the films, he is actually being played by a woman? |
Yes! Thank you NECA, this made this Friday the 13th a good one :^)

Love this! Parts 3 and 4 were always my favorites. I have all the other(older)versions NECA made, but I'll buy this too. Haven't seen too much in the ways of Jason figures lately, so I'm happy to see this. The new accessories, the retooled mask, and the packaging will make it worth it. Plus you can't beat the price! Now let's see that packaging!

I'm pretty much sold on this figure. I have the original release, but I never picked up the "battle damaged" one and being able to stuck the machete into his head wound is keen. Plus I love that corkscrew!

I have both versions of the original figure so I would essentially be paying $20 for a hacksaw, butcher cleaver, and corkscrew, in which two of those accessories came with the Mezco version and work perfectly fine with the versions I have as is. On top of that this one will likely have the insane amount of clear coat that NECA has been putting on their figures as of recently. I'll pass.

As for the clear coat, considering it's raining in most of the scenes surrounding Jason in Part IV, that may work. Contrary to your Mezco accessories comment, they don't work that well. The Mezco figure was way more clunky. |

Well I will say that this will be mine when it comes out. I passed on the others for various reasons, skin tone mismatch, warped mask etc. I wasn't a fan of the head sculpt. However I think it is time to grab one and this guy looks great to me. I love the gaping machete wound. There are just lots of things I like about it. I will wait and check it out in person but I have been picky about this figure for some reason and I think this one will be a winner for me.I think the hack saw is my favorite. Ithe would make a great cabin scene with a body on the table. I am sure I can find an extra figure somewhere in a bargain bin to repaint and chop up.
I noticed in their Twitter pictures that the nails were black in one picture and not painted in the others. I wonder which version will be produced. |
