I see more evidence daily to get these pieces. This film is 100% disappointment as story, narrative, but these costume designs cannot be matched.

Startaiger 01-16-2017 03:29 PM

Thanks for another great gallery, Tony!!
OK, you convinced me, this is the line for me, order is on its way!!

No prob, glad you dig it.

I think you'll be happy, Superman is solid too, he's going up tomorrow.

TimothyR 01-17-2017 02:25 AM

I definitely would've picked this up if it had been released closer to the release of the movie.

I think the mafex version looks the best, then the DC version, and the 1:12 is definitely last.

Taxidriva 01-17-2017 03:17 AM

Thanks for sharing, the lineup looks great

Skoob 01-17-2017 03:21 AM

Frank Miller's quirky, loose artistic style struck me as strategically and charmingly ambiguous on the printed page, as it left lots of room for reader interpretation. That's one reason why DKR was such a success, IMO. I never expected movie director Zack Snyder to take Miller's sketchy design so strictly and literally. That said, what do you wear for a match with Superman, if not something resembling a red-man or bomb disposal suit? It makes sense.

The dilemma for a toy designer is how to make the sculpt look less bulky, awkward and ugly, and more like a respectable superhero figure. In that respect, I think DC's version is most successful, as it respects normal body proportions best. It's a shame that the cape is so thick, and the scale doesn't match anything else, but if this size is a new standard, I'm with Tony: so be it. I ordered one.

I hope someday for something more like Iron Man armor. How about a nice figure of the new Telltale armor design?

Thanks, Tony, for the great shots.

Why does everyone always go to the place of "does this scale with Marvel Legends?" When did that line become the standard for everyone else to have to deal with? With the exception of a few standouts, most of the figures in the waves are marginal at best. There are SO many other better lines of figures with superior paint aps, design, articulation, etc. It grind my gears so hard when the first question is always "but how does it scale with legends??" who gives a f&*%!

Gben5723 01-17-2017 08:01 AM

And just to clarify, I collect legends, they are perfectly fine for what they are, but they shouldn't be the standard against which everything else is measured.

lol yeah, never got that either but, to each its own.

i thought the mafex version was going to be the one to beat but, imo, it really pales in comparison to the dc films version. i have one on the way to me, this is going to be my sole bvs-related purchase. the standout bit of the film for me, was bats wearing the armor-its a really striking look.

I don't prescribe by that standard either because there will always be a question of quality to accuracy. I also don't prescribe sticking to one line because that limits the enjoyment of trying different things. If you're on a budget, then the best method is to stick to the buy one, replace one mantra. Buy the best one current, replace when something better that meets your criteria comes along, and sell the old.

Looking at these pictures, I would have loved the Mezco to be taller but with that DC Films soft goods cape. That face and particularly the chin is dead on to Affleck. The cloth texture parts for the joints? Amazing. But he's short and that throws off the arms. So I can see where the DC Films version really hits the best notes, but I am coming to love figures that are seemless in design.

VashTS 01-17-2017 09:35 AM

I think the DCC version, this version looks the best. It's better than Mafex and might be better that Mezco...it is better than Mezco due to sculpt and proportion.

I just wished for an unmasked or damaged head.

I hear you on that, and I'm not even a regular Legends collector, or Marvel collector for that matter.

I mention it because what I would really like is one scale, regardless of which one it is, for all these figures. I want Batman and Iron man standing next to each other in exactly the same style and proportions. I want a mixed DC/Marvel shelf where it doesn't look off. And not just Marvel / DC, but all human based figures.

I know it's a pipe dream, just thinking out loud. I only compare to Legends due to its reach and deep roster, long running history compared to most of the other lines that have come and gone and changed through the years.

Tony_Bacala 01-17-2017 10:06 AM

Also of note with the cape...

I like it the best out of all 3, it's a weird texture that is kinda stiff. It does have a great wire in it that bends it up and down the body. There is only one problem...

It's too long. And it doesn't have a wire on the bottom. So since it's stiff, and there is no way to curve up the bottom and make it rest on the floor behind him, it just flails out. It will take up valuable room in a tight shelf space, it basically takes up room for a second figure.

I put Supes on his stand, floating, and Armored bats in front so his cape can fly out under Superman's legs.

If they cut this cape to stop at his ankles, with the points coming down to floor while in straight up-down mode, then you could use the wire to pull the shoulders flat and that would be perfect.

deecee4 01-17-2017 10:34 AM

i think the capes may be the weakest aspects for all those figures. you got bulky umbrella material, faux jeans fabric and a blanket...i think they all could've been done a bit better imo.

I agree in general, but prefer the Umbrella one with some mods. :)

Tony_Bacala 01-17-2017 02:18 PM

Superman is up. Now its wait and see wtf is going on with the line!

I told myself I wouldn't buy into this line. Over and over again. And then you went and posted these. Sigh. Where's my wallet?

RolandofGilead 01-17-2017 02:57 PM

I'll stick to Mezco at this point. It's too bad they aren't offering a Wonder Woman.

EvilMonkeyPope 01-17-2017 03:42 PM

These look nice, but I don't see why they should cost double a normal DCC toy.

Startaiger 01-17-2017 04:33 PM

I'm a bit disappointed by this Supes compared to the great armored Batman:
- the likeness to Henry Cavill is not as good as the Mafex version.
- he's shorter than Batman, should be about the same size (like Mafex).
- & yep, the upper-legs articulations, not looking great.

I think I'll wait a little & see if this one grows on me.

And WTF with DCC, they cancelled Wonder Woman but Aquaman is still coming in July?! Are they serious?

Tony_Bacala 01-17-2017 04:39 PM

I really don't know what's going on, but I THINK everything was cancelled other than these. Different stores have them listed differently. I think it was more of a re-solicitation deal, where they will re offer them for sale again this year, in different order.

I'm betting Wonder Woman comes out near the movie, and Justice League stuff near that one. With the older items sprinkled in.

That is, if they continue period. :/

VashTS 01-17-2017 06:16 PM

I think DCC has the best Armored Bats and Mafex has the best LOOKING Supes. The floppy joints is a bummer on Mafex, but I am sure I can tighten it with Hobby Glue.

Stranger 01-17-2017 10:49 PM

Is it just me or does he have an incredibly narrow torso?...

Skoob 01-17-2017 11:07 PM

I'm disappointed that the action figure for Faora-Ul is cancelled, only because I find actress Antje Traue sexy, but let's face it: character development and costume design (among other things) in Man of Steel was the shits, and those tend to be important elements to many collectors, so it was probably inevitable that figures for the supporting cast would get cut. The market spoke; bless the market.

I'd jump on this figure of Superman if articulation didn't spoil the appearance. As it stands, I'm inclined to wait and see what comes down the pipe in conjunction with Justice League. Same goes for non-armored Batman.
