It makes sense that Hasbro is kind of trying to do what Mattel is doing with DC Super Hero Girls, but I was expecting them to do it with Marvel, instead of Star Wars.

Trivial Psychic 04-12-2017 11:26 PM

Awww...no Ahsoka? Soon, I hope...soon...

Jeddostotle7 04-13-2017 12:16 AM

Also... why the hell are these 11 inch figures instead of 12? Are they actually 1:6 scale, and are 11 inches because they're female (so a bit shorter), or is it a similar weird 11-inch scale to the Disney Star Wars Elite Series Premium Figures?

MeLikeJinx 04-13-2017 03:10 AM

If I have to... I will get that Resistance Rey doll... hope I don't have to though and Hasbro makes a Black Series version with a nice headsculpt.

They're Barbie scale.

She's mentioned in the description for the animated shorts they're doing to tie into the line, so I imagine she will show up. Hera too.

It's not a bad plan. Females are being better integrated into the Star Wars universe, so it makes sense they'd want to appeal to young female fans as well.

RolandofGilead 04-13-2017 08:45 AM

My daughter will Need that Chewbacca

Yes! After seeing the Hot Toys one I hoped for another cheaper version, I LOVE the idea of fluffy action figure:D!

I agree, but speaking as female myself (though I'm not a fan, I just like some of the visuals/designs), Hasbro should have made their dolls clothes entirely from fabric, this is cheap and lame; I don't see little girls liking these too much, at least I know I wouldn't like that when I was a kid and even now I dislike it a lot. I hope they would also eventually release Padme Amidala and Asajj Ventress with good quality and detailed fully fabric clothes, they're the only famales from SW I care about; Padme Amidala was probably my first famale action figure and one of my favorite childhood toys, as for Asajj, she is one the coolest character designs ever.

P.S. Princess Leia with Wicket have really simple and cheap clothes which is a shame, since she is the only one with fully fabric clothes.

Not knowing that 2/3rds of the sales of these dolls will be done by the 30-40 year old male collector.

I think it will be even more considering what I've said...they don't have fully fabric clothes and girls who like SW buying the action figures anyway, so I don't see this line succeeding.

i just want that wicket and yoda ahahahahah

Well, good, they should have stuff to complain about too lol.

It's probably too expensive for them, or maybe they were trying more to appeal to both genders with these? I have no idea. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of full fabric on these types of toys. I think this mixture looks pretty nice, but I definitely understand why a girl would want full fabric. Oh well. At least it's an attempt by them. I really enjoyed Rey and Jyn in their respective roles so hopefully this'll help a little and they'll learn as they go. Of any of the franchises I'm a fan of, I think this has the best chance of cultivating a larger unisex fan base.

No, it's because toy companies lately being cheap with quality, heck even Barbie now have molded clothes, ughh. Also to note the original Gi Joe and Action Man line (both by Hasbro) had full fabric clothes, so it doesn't have to do with appealing to boys too, it's purely being cheap. In that case,I don't see point of this new line; if they're just going to be bigger with less articulation and would cost more anyway then how they are any better or needed then the regular Black series?! So they have brushbale hair to make different hairstyles without having different clothes?! See what I mean? It's more like a regular action figure instead of an action doll which is a mixture of fashion doll and action figure and also known as the ultimate toy, well at least, in my opinion. This why I think this line is useless attempt and it just shows the stupid thinking lately in the toy market when they make half away good toy just to make it cost few dollars less instead of making actual good toy.

This seems to be the goal. Mattel is taking a similar approach with the DC Super Hero Girls lines, though their tactic is by making two primary lines - the larger dolls with rooted hair and fabric outfits, and the smaller action figures. Either way, it's a way to 'bridge the gap' and appeal to an overall larger consumer base.

Thing is, they're not aiming to get your dollar with these, judging from all the kibitzing here - but I can think of a lot of people who these dolls will appeal to, people who might buy other Star Wars lines, but don't have something specifically targeting them.

Could they have fully-fabric outfits? Absolutely, and you hit some valid points about doll lines today (my wife's been buying fewer Monster High/Ever After High dolls due to the cuts they've been making with clothing and such). But IMO, these look good, and that's the first thing that's going to draw someone in - the visual. Could they be better articulated? Probably, but the articulation seems pretty serviceable here. Obviously, they're not going to hit everyone's standards of what a good toy is, but no single toy ever does. And I think these are, all things considered, pretty good toys, and will hit the demographic Hasbro is aiming for. And then some.

I like this idea but have to ask.

Where is the K-2SO buddy for Jyn?
I'm very interested in Wicket and Yoda to some degree. I just know they will compliment the Black series figures.

I hope they don't cheap out on these. I anticipate the shorts this summer. I loved Gendy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars shorts.

Thwipp!

I know that I am not the target audience and they're definitely not aiminig at you either, but I have some understanding of the target audience.

It seems like you haven't read my comment 'till the end, nor my previous comment.

This line is aimed for girls and meant to give additional value, besides the regular action figure line and I explianed why it fails completely at that. As I have said in action figures terms it's inferior to the regular action figure line, and as a doll it sucks, in other words it should have been mixture of the two, action doll, but it does it poorly. The only thing that separates it from being a regular action figure, is the brushbale hair and it doesn't worth it 'cause what's the point of making different hairstyles without having different clothes?! Little girls like to play dress up with dolls, it's an important high play value as much as brushbale hair (and even more so in case of male dolls) which is why little girls aren't going to like this line. So, as I have said they're just bigger lousier more expensive action figures, half away made action doll which could've been if they cost a few more dollars and girls would actually want to get them.

To make my point even better, let me give you an extreme exmple from recent years; the TMNT Secret Sewer Lair playset cost 100$, a very expensive playset, yet it sold like hot cakes and even got second release. On the other hand, the movie Technodrome playset, which cost 50$, half from the Secret Sewer Lair playset, didn't sold nearly as the Secret Sewer Lair playset and even was undersold. In other words, good toys worth their price, instead of having a cheaper toy which is mediocre at best.

P.S. Monster High and Ever After High keep getting less and less sales due to Mattel lazy desgins and cheap quality.
