Fox wants to sell rights to MARVEL !!!!

21st Century Fox appears set on selling its movie studio and other media assets and if the company gets its way, Disney will be the buyer. Bloomberg reports that the Murdoch family hopes to reach a decision on the sale of every asset at 21st Century Fox—outside of its news, network broadcast, and sports divisions—by the end of the year. Comcast is still a suitor, but Fox would prefer to sell to Disney.

Fox reportedly prefers Disney because the latter is a better strategic fit and will have an easier time clearing regulatory hurdles compared to other potential buyers. Comcast is still in play, but Fox also hopes that selling to Disney will get Fox’s current chief executive officer, James Murdoch, a job with the Mouse House. I’m not sure if Disney will go for that, but the Murdochs could become very large Disney shareholders.

The 21st Century Fox asset of most interest to Marvel Studios fans is Fox’s movie studio. Fox currently holds the movie rights to X-Men, Deadpool, Fantastic Four, and related Marvel franchises. Disney purchasing Fox’s movie studio would bring those characters home to Marvel Studios, allowing them to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Now that Marvel Studios is successfully partnering with Sony Pictures on the use of Spider-Man, a deal with Fox would give virtually every Marvel Comics character potential place in the MCU. That is huge, but obviously a deal like this has much more to consider than superhero movies and shared universes.

Even if the Murdochs succeed in reaching a decision by the end of the year with Disney as Fox’s buyer, fans should not expect the X-Men or Deadpool in the MCU right away. There can be months and even years in between the time a purchase agreement is reached, the sale goes through government regulation, and the integration of the purchased assets into the buyer’s company is complete.

And if you’re worried about Disney blocking the release of the R-rated Deadpool 2, don’t be. None of this is going to happen fast enough to prevent fans from getting the next raunchy adventure of Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds).

Please god no.

Il Cattivo 12-05-2017 07:26 AM

x-men and ff back at marvel + original star wars...please god yes!

Weapon X 12-06-2017 08:24 PM

Disney would be putting out 40% of the pictures if this happens. Dire consequences could result from that, like them controlling theaters.

snake5289 12-06-2017 08:42 PM

Go ahead and put me in with the "No Thank You" crowd.

Marvel can have the F4 because I really couldn't care less about them but I'm one of those weirdos that likes all the X-Men movies (that's right I said ALL) and is perfectly fine with them being their own thing.

MeLikeJinx 12-06-2017 09:54 PM

Apocalypse was so bad... I don't think I want to watch another X-men movie made by Fox ever again. Plus, I already have a feeling Dark Phoenix is gonna suck too. Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Fassbender Magneto are the only things I really liked from Fox's X-men movies.

I never thought I would see the day though when Fox got rid of their movie rights to both the original Star Wars and X-men ... and those rights are probably gonna be reunited with Lucasfilm and Marvel under Disney too... crazy.

Disney needs to just squash Harmony Gold next and get the rights to Robotech now.

Tomax 12-06-2017 10:13 PM

Apocalypse:x-men was horrible, worst movie ever.

Il Cattivo 12-06-2017 10:13 PM

next step: get namor and hulk back from universal!

It's not a monopoly. But it IS too damn close for my comfort, so it's still definitely a cause for concern. This along with the Net Neutrality stuff is...troubling.

don't take this the wrong way, but what do you call then ? they own already large portion of then entertainment business. whether it be tv stations, tv shows, channels etc. PLUS whatever else they just bought with fox?

the net neutrality thing is scary.

I'd call it something like a majority stake

The deal will HAVE to be looked at closely. I am not sure how some here can switch the morality so easily when it suites them. We see this "morality" on these very boards. We see it when it is okay to punch someone with a different ideology.

With this Disney/Fox deal, logic says, this deal is very impact due to what Disney is and is gobbling up. They will take a look at this deal. I believe Disney's main goal is to control streaming as TV is all but dead and so is the MSM.

I dislike their review embargo's and the pressure Disney puts on the media/other entities to actively promote positive reviews.

It obvisously raised red flags... if it wasn't the deal would have been done easilyband articles like the one i posted wouldn't have been mafe in the first place. as far as "mortality" goes. Im merely chiming in the conversation, and have every right to do so....

The "morality" here is something else by the way, maybe you haven't been on here long enough to see, but there really is some special people here especially in this group.

I just meant by literal definition it's not a monopoly. I.E, there's more than just Disney out there. But I'm actually agreeing with everything you said (other than that literal definition.) It's still one company controlling way too much of an industry for my tastes. Not that, if the deal goes through without any regulatory hitches, I will have any choice in the matter. Furthermore pretty much every current film series I'm gung ho about will then be owned by under the Disney Umbrella (I could give or take Jurassic Park/DCU but we're talking Star Wars, both MCU and XMen of Marvel, POTC, Aliens...)
