I would love to find this space toy again!
Sometime between 1955 and 1960, I had a space toy that I would love to find today. I've tried a bunch of Google searches and EBay searches but just have not found one.I'll try to describe it as I remember it: It was a rocket ship that consisted of three plastic spheres sitting on top of one another. In order words, three spheres high, with the lower the biggest sphere and getting smaller going up. I think it had some type of legs, maybe fins or some kind of industrial looking legs. The predominant color was red. It had several doors that opened and I remember a crane with a small chain that reeled in that I think came out of the side of the top sphere.
I think it was probably between 12" and 16" tall. That is just a guess. If anyone knows of this please post a picture and a name for it! Thanks! |
I just remembered I didn't give an estimate of size around. The bottom sphere was about half the size of a bowling ball with each higher sphere being smaller!

Based on his description, I would say that one does not have enough balls.

I wish that was the one!!! I didn't have the other stuff though. I think I would have remembered all of the other cool rockets and the car. Mine may have had some type of control panel like this one but I don't remember it either. BUT FROM THE TOP OF THE red sphere down to the ground seems right!!!! The legs look like they could be right too but could have also been fins.
The flip up door on the right side of the red ball seems right. The crane/wench would have been right below the word BASE! Please keep trying!!!!! |
looked through 3k pre-70's toy eBay listings and didn't find anything closer than the astro base. shrug.

Thank you so much for looking. One of theses days....

That may we'll be the toy I'm thinking about!!! Once I put in Astro space labb vintage toy Into Google a bunch of pictures from different views.
I believe it did sell separately from the othe space toys (looks like it came in a separate box) and it did have the hoist!!!! If you look at the pictures you can see a man on the hoist. I just don't remember any other controls or batteries. Then again, maybe mama didn't give me batteries thinking the would shock me. She was very protective!!!!!! |
