Red Elephant Numbered Game Pieces

Just acquired these four solid hard plastic numbered red elephants (1.5" tall x 2.0" long) in a nicely made cardboard box. They are marked "Made in the USA" and have a maker's mark of DVC in a circle. I assuming they are a set of vintage game pieces, but would like to know if anyone knows which game, their maker and approximate age. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
