Awesome article and photos. Very happy I got a Turtles set. I sort of wish I went for the bundle with the dio but I just don't have the space for it right now. Its great how modular it is.

Thank you!

Space will be an issue for the dio. I am not sure where I'm going to store it between shoots. Right now, it's still on my table.

First of all, beautiful pics! And great reading! I have been waiting for the in depth look from someone on the playset diorama. I try not to show favoritism, but this is by far the best news site for fans. Great job....can't wait for your Sdcc coverage.

I have the deluxe set coming,I have zero idea where it is going. I want the generic version as well to use for my Mcu figures.

I know we have discussed the availability of this at nausea but I really feel for those that missed out. I hope the con gets this into more collector hands. Neca is truly fulfilling childhood desires, but they are not easy to obtain.

Alucard1138 07-10-2018 09:44 AM

Had to check this for your awesome as always pics, but I had to stop because it was pissing me off. I'm still salty as shit about striking out all 3 days trying to get this set. I got royally screwed.

9000 HAL Robots 07-10-2018 12:54 PM

I had to sit down after the toy swoon that came over me looking at these... WOW! What a killer set! Gotta say, that Jungle Hunter Predator looked the most epic and at home there. But those turtles are just crazy good. Really happy I was lucky enough to score a set (non-dio version). Now I'm struggling with are they OK for my 4- and 6-year-old boys to play with? I'd hate to see them break apart and lose pieces over time. But seeing them open this up on Christmas is going to be incredible.

Gben5723 07-10-2018 01:41 PM

gee thanks for telling us all about how awesome a highly sought-after con exclusive that was almost impossible to snag turned out to be...….couldn't these review samples have been allocated to actual paying customers. Do I need Pixel Dan, Toyark, and 3 or 4 more "reviewers" to tell me this is an awesome set? no, no I dont't. yes, yes I am salty.

webz 07-10-2018 02:05 PM

Awesome review and fantastic photos! I can't wait to get my set (Yes, I only bought one set). These look amazing and incredibly lifelike. I had the chance to get the 18" turtles for $50 each when a local toy/comics store had a "going under" closeout sale, but couldn't rationalize the purchases to my wife.

These look every bit as sharp as the bigguns, just without requiring a new cabinet to store them! LOL Diorama looks sharp, but I think I'm going to try to make my own. Don't need the three levels.

As someone who has handled these, how durable do they feel? I've bought tons of Neca stuff in the past, including last year's set, the previous Mirage Foot set, etc, and I've had several pieces break doing the bare minimum of movement... like bending an elbow or raising a leg for a kick.

My 2017 box set had an incredibly stiff Raph. Don has one immobile leg, and one foot soldier is insanely stiff. Tried the usual treatments... hair dryer, warm water, etc. works for a short while, then they go back to being tight.

I really want to recreate scenes from the movie for my photoblog, but I'm leery of them snapping into pieces! lol

PS... Peeps, please stop with the sour grapes/pissiness about how Neca did the online sale. You all know as well as anyone that Neca's hands were tied. Some are acting like Neca was targeting them personally or something!

On a high note we have another 1/4 teaser of the Foot!
I am looking forward to figures I can get.

thekillerwc 07-10-2018 03:11 PM

This really looks amazing, so happy I manage to get a regular set on the second day of sales. I always wanted a set of the ninja turtles, is just I wanted one that didn't look too cartoony. Wanted something kind of serious looking. Like last year or the figuarts were great but this are the best. Can't wait for it to arrive.

Glad I missed out on the diorama version...looking at these pics and getting a better sense of it’s scale, I don’t know where I would even put it. It would probably just end up in the basement in storage most of the time

Primehunter 07-10-2018 03:52 PM

Really looking forward to getting these.

Can’t fault him. I’m happier when crap didn’t cost me something than when I worked for weeks to afford something and it’s crap.

These have a bit of a different feel to them compared to a general NECA release or even last years TMNT box set. The plastic used on the limbs feels very much like the type they used on the 1/4 scale Turtles. Solid feeling. I didn't run unto any immobile joints, limbs moved with ease, much more so than the larger versions. The green areas seem to be cast in the green, and then airbrushed over, instead of the heavier paint with slight tackiness that you see on their general releases.

That is awesome! So stoked now! My Chris Reeve Superman had his left leg shatter right out of the box years ago, so I’m so nervous around Neca figures. Because my 2017 set had so many tight joints, they just sit there in boring “generic standing pose” on my shelf, instead of kinetic action poses. Love looking at them tho. As sculptors of toys, they are unequaled in the quality vs quantity arena.

Go ninja go ninja go!

The 1st batch of DC figures in general had really bad breakage issues. I had to replace Superman (arm), 1966 Batman (snapped fist pegs) and the Joker (leg snapped off). The replacements felt like completely different figures.

The only areas I tend to run really into problems are with small pins. Every Terminator arm I have had the pin fall out along with the piston, and that includes the Robocop vs Terminator figures.

You got replacements? wow! They fixed my toon Leonardo's paint job, but when I've asked for fixes for "regular retail releases" including Superman's leg and a sheared forearm of a Resident Evil Chris Redfield, I was told to deal with the vendor. TRU only had the one superman, so I was forced to superglue Supe's leg on, and the resident evil character got the elbow joint melted and painted red.

Are you outside the US? They were replacing all the 1st wave DC figures. Told people to contact NECA CS on Twitter for fastest results. But that only lasted until they ran out of stock. So if you bought those later, or were outside US, then there was likely nothing they could do.

Nope. In Utah (feels outside the USA, but that's another story! lol). I bought Superman in the little blue box at TRU a few years ago. Chris Redfield I bought like 10+ years ago and threw away. Superman was on clearance upon release at my local TRU. I bought one, took it out of the box, attempted to make the classic "up up and away" pose, and the leg snapped. I was pissed. emailed Neca, they shrugged it off. Went to TRU, they were out. They did a store network search, but told me they had none. It popped up on TRU website and amazon a few times, but I didn't want to buy it a 2nd time if it was going to break again. I just tightened my bigboy pants and got out the superglue, soaked the leg socket, and cemented the leg in a standing pose. Sucks, but I've forgiven Neca, because it looks damn good, and honestly, it's not a hasbro play toy, it's a "stick it on the shelf and walk away" collectible.

After those two experiences, I still buy Neca, I just avoid posing as much as possible. My Keaton Batman has one arm that raises, one is really tight. I've never moved the tight arm to this day. lol luckily, Keaton as Batman was so stiff, it still looks natural!

For my blog post, this was about the most posing I was willing to risk... again, notice other arm has not moved! lol

" If you miss out on this one, a version without the TMNT markings will be released in the future, so don’t fret."

So they are making the diorama set without the markings? Is there any link to this? I just want the diorama set and missed out on this.

No info available at this time on the standard dio set. All we know is that it's in the works.

I asked Neca, they couldn’t commit to a timeframe other than “not this year” and no idea on price. Don’t rule out future customized painted ones as well.

webz 07-11-2018 07:37 PM

@Joe Moore I threw some of your pics up on my 55” 4k tv... looks amazing! Some of the pics really make the figures look like they’re the original suits, not 7” toys! My wife even sat down and looked through the pics! Neca really made some eye catching figures
