Will You Collect the New DC Multiverse Figures?
I keep reading how Mattel's burned so many people with inconsistency and lines that don't last, so I'm wondering if you think it'll be worth it to jump on board.
When I was collecting way back when, I wanted DC figures that scaled well with Marvel Legends. In fact, it turns out I still do. But here's the catch: I want them to actually look good, as well. From what was shown at SDCC '18, it looks like Mattel may have finally pulled it off - I think they look really good! I just don't want that negative experience many have talked about where I get invested in a line, only to have it disappear in a year. Or never find its way to shelves. So, what do you think? Will Mattel finally pull it off? And will you be collecting this line? Have fun, all, and thanks! |
toy taste is subjective, just like movies and music. dont go by what others say especially on a pro-marvel site like toyArk. collect what you like, do the research before buying with pics, scale comparisons and toy reviews. you are overthinking it.

The stuff about the inconsistent releases is really DC Collectibles which is a different company than Mattel.
As for what was shown, I'm interested and willing to pick up a couple of figures but I wouldn't say that I'm ready to start preordering Multiverse waves. Sculpt and articulation are very important to me. Figures that were using newer bodies such as Batman Beyond looked really nice but the figures that used the old, buff upper body like GL look dated to me. And all of the figures NEED double jointed elbows. I was glad to hear that they're including more ankle articulation but I want it to be the ankle pivot that comes on most figures these days rather than what Mattel used on figures years ago. Personally, I'm never going to go deep with a DC toy line. I did that with DCUC and realized when it was over that I had a collection that I didn't care that much for. It felt dated due to the Return of Marvel Legends and I had no real connection or love for many of the characters in my collection. I'm a Batman fan and will happily build his rouges gallery and buy many different versions of him and the Bat Family. But beyond that, I'll only every buy a few heroes and their enemies. That's part of the appeal of DC Essentials to me since it's built around a hero and corresponding villain being wave mates. |
I'm with Tomax 100%. jwyss234 makes good points, but I favor appearance where he values articulation, and too often, one gets sacrificed for the other.
Some people are completists, gung-ho for a particular line or theme or genre, but I'm much more of a guerrilla collector, picking and choosing individual pieces that stand out for me in some way. I was a completist years ago, but the disappointments spoiled the whole experience of collecting, so I study the living daylights out of product reviews and only pull the trigger on things that I'm darned sure I want, which is very hard in its own way, because a lot of other people are doing the same thing, which means that pre-orders for the best stuff tend to sell out before I can get near them. But that's okay: there will always be another fish in the collector ocean as long as there is money to be made... |
I might do , i dont know after seeing what they showed at SDCC i.e star-fire and red hood i just might get those two and if i can get arsenal even better
|
I'm going to pick up the Teen Titans for sure, and Red Hood. I have so many "comic version" figures, and I tend to lean more toward live-action stuff these days, but a few of these are looking really nice. Plus it's always nice to be able to spend $20-$25 on a figure instead of $50-$80 (Imports/Mezco)

There were a long of characters I like shown off so if I can actually find them yeah probably.

Yeah will be getting any releases of the DC Trinity, unless it's a variation of something I already have. Kingdom Come Supes looks good (never got the DCC version). Wonder if they'll do Wondy and Bats in that style.

If new waves actually show up in Stores. Havent seen a gotdamned thing for three years other than the four doomsday wave figs that never sold.
|
i feel like they are getting muuuuch closer to legends...but right now they are super easy to cherry pick...if the quality, poseability, and selection keep getting better, i may be picking up more of these
OH..and they need to have.. MUST HAVE BAF's (C&C's)...so far only King Shark and Clayface I felt compelled to own. |
heck yeah- finally getting close to having some decent Marvel/DC crossover style

O man that Aquaman Looks Incredible! I definitely need to find me one of those sets...awesome pic btw
|
I pick up the figures for characters I like in both Marvel Legends and DC Multiverse (and any other line for that matter) and I will continue to do so. I think the multiverse line is a great line and has a lot of promising figures coming out this year.

Yes,def for the figures I really want like 90's Kyle Rayner, Batman Beyond and Spoiler
I've been collecting the line ever since DCUC and its nice having the older and newer figs together :-) |
I don’t think I will ever dive on board with collecting a Mattel line at this point. The DC figs have been so all over the place in terms of everything. I just buy the character that I want and don’t chase the line. Hasbro has consistently improved and evolved with their Marvel Legends line. Bandai similarly improves their SH Figuarts year after year. Mattel’s DC stuff? It’s like every figure they are starting over from scratch. Sometimes they get it right. Sometimes they don’t. I would love to know the backend business processes that cause that?

I wish they had the "full" new articulation (ankles/wrists) but they're still very nice!

Encourage this guy to do comic figures again. He put lots of care into his figures. I want him to bring back DC Multiverse 3.75 inch figures matching the quality of his Marvel Universe 3.75 figures. Maybe we can send Pine Ave Comics a few dollars each month to get all those DC Comics to Mr. Vonner?

SDCC 2018 Photos of upcoming DC Multiverse figures, for reference I want The Ray just because I always liked that character. (I'd love to see a similar quality version of CLASSIC (Golden Age) Adam Strange.) Might snag Spoiler, too. Wonder Woman looks like a good figure overall, as do the Aquaman characters, so if the movie does well, the new figures might attract some interest. I'm just not into Aquaman: never have been. |

Having just got my Multiverse Batwoman, it's impressed me enough that I'm certainly willing to consider collecting Multiverse. I might even get the rest of the Clayface wave.
