"CLAMP"? (aka plastic housing to hold figures inside the box)?

Some joker on ebay mentioned the "CLAMP" and box were not included in the listing for an action figure. In the listing image the figure is inside the plastic packaging it originally comes with...confusing.
*Especially when in the description he goes on and on about not sending him stupid questions or offers...I'm sure returns are a delight with this person*

Is "CLAMP" an actual term for the "plastic housing"? Slang term?

If so, do people actually use it? Or is this guy as pretentious and angsty as it appears?

I have some toy buddies and watch a ton of toy reviews...never heard clamp.

Karma Jawa 10-18-2018 04:12 PM

Never heard of it.

P Tom 10-18-2018 04:20 PM

Maybe he meant clamshell packaging.

Bo Ttef 10-18-2018 04:46 PM

Clam Shell maybe???

JerpJerp 10-18-2018 05:47 PM

Clamshell!

Clamshell!!

That's a great guess. I've heard "clamshell" before now that you mention it. Even if it's just slang. Maybe even used it myself. It's a great word for it. Clamp is just bad.
Thanks guys!

Maybe that's what he meant, if he was lucky XD I don't think he's that knowledgable. He's trying to sound smart or something. He's so intense and weird!

I'm pretty new to posting here so they won't let me use a link yet, but,
Copy and paste: Star Wars S.H. Figuarts Death Trooper Action Figure (Complete)
into an ebay search and you might see it. Seller Travi.harde. 8 days left.

Highlights:
"Box and clamp are NOT included with the purchase. Figure will be shipped inside a zip lock bag and..." (Item Condition? NEW)
"If the price I'm suggesting is not acceptable to you please do not waste my time..." ("Make Offer" option included)
"...give me ample time. I have other responsibilities outside of eBay that require my attention."
"Winners who leave neutral and/or negative feedback will be banned..."

This guy....and the price....

Thor Laserpunch 10-18-2018 05:53 PM

Bada climp bada clamp.

P Tom 10-18-2018 06:53 PM

Since it is a SH Figuarts figure, "clamp" could also refer to the SH Figuarts stands, which comes with the base, support strut, and the clamp.

Not a bad thought but this particular figure doesn't come with a stand and all that, just fig, hands, holsters and guns.

Or are you saying maybe he thinks it comes with a clamp and therefore arbitrarily mentioned there not being a clamp?

I'm too afraid to ask him, lol.

Perhaps some buyers think that the SH Figuarts figures comes with the clamp stand. So the seller state right at the start that no clamp is provided.

I have no idea what he means by clamp, as he states it with Hasbro stuff, as well. I do know that I wouldn't ever buy anything from him. He seems bratty, entitled, and arrogant. Also, for such an eBay guru snob, he sure has a lot of negative feedback.

Lol! He's really into the clamp. I'd be waaay to afraid to buy. I might end up in a clamp.

Guru snob XD exacto.

There's a couple of red flags with him, but, as someone who sells on eBay from time to time, I don't get what the big deal is with some of his description points. Not to be defending the guy, but in all fairness...

"Box and clamp are NOT included with the purchase. Figure will be shipped inside a zip lock bag and..." (Item Condition? NEW)
-Contrary to what people think, it can be hard to make a decent profit off of ebay unless you resort to unsavory means. It's even more difficult if you offer free shipping. Postal rates keep going up (an average of 7 to 15 dollars) and then ebay takes their cut in fees. Sending something first class in a zip lock bag is usually the cheapest method without knocking 20 bucks off of his final price.

Still...his own damn fault for offering free shipping if that's the case.

"If the price I'm suggesting is not acceptable to you please do not waste my time..." ("Make Offer" option included)
-Make an offer is a tricky one. I cannot tell you how many times I've been sent messages on ebay with lowball offers for stuff I'm trying to sell by people who are pushy, rude, and unwilling to negotiate. If I'm selling a lot with a "make an offer" option starting at 50 dollars, and someone offers me seven bucks for the lot, get the hell out of here. It gets tiresome.

Of course, he can curb that by learning how to set an amount for ebay to filter serious offers, but it still won't stop people from messaging you unfortunately.

Nothing wrong with those points...

On the other hand....

"...give me ample time. I have other responsibilities outside of eBay that require my attention."

-Huge red flag here. This is basically a CYA excuse for being lousy seller and not tending to your customer's needs. Even more so since most of the negative feedback seems to stem from poor communication, untimely shipping, and cancelled sales.

As for the price, if it's an authentic figure like he says it is, it's not too off...IF it were new and came with all of the packaging. Not having it, as well as his stubborn refusal to send any of it gives the whole thing a sketchy feel to it, especially when there is a plethora of bootleg Figuarts figures flooding ebay with varying degrees of quality. Having the original packaging might be one of the only ways to verify authenticity.

All very good points...the thing with the first one, it's just so weird that he mentions a clamp that doesn't exist with the figure. So it leads a buyer to do extra research to find out what this means and whether they care about the missing clamp or not. All could be avoided by not mentioning the "clamp", or quickly researching the actual figure and phrasing everything correctly. It's a $55 listing. Another person pointed out, he uses the "clamp" term all throughout his auctions. What if the item doesn't come with a piece it's supposed to and he just says, "that's what I meant by clamp, sorry, F OFF"
The second thing, like you said, he can filter the offers, or turn off the "make offer" option, pick a price and relax. Otherwise, who is to say an offer is "bad" or not. If I offer 35 for the 50. Is that worth being called stupid? It's a fine line. He so offensive and scary I wouldn't bother offering, lost business.
The third I think we all agree on, lol. Ample time? Who knows what that means.
And the price, too much conflicting information to judge at all. It's new...but it doesn't have a box and comes in a ziplock. What is the actual condition? Why are there not pictures of the figure free standing? Why is it still in the clamshell in the picture? Where did that go? Etc.
He could be a good guy...I'm not trying to harass his actual ebay profile or something. That wouldn't be right. He's a character and I thought it might give us toy peeps a chuckle or quandary. And I really wanted to know about this "clamp" thing. He loves it so much!
