Got both Pennywise figures at the Weekend of Fear convention. Finally opened them today. Really nicely done, but the Curry figure has super tight joints, and given NECAs track record, I'm afraid to apply too much pressure.

I’ve run into that issue on other figures. I always use a hair dryer to loosen the plastic up a bit. That will help a lot.

Had a nightmare switching heads on the Curry version, and getting the balloons to fit properly was a bit tricky, but I got there in the end. It’s an amazing figure. The detail on the coat is incredible.

SpasticPlastic 10-27-2018 12:53 PM

Yeah, switching the heads is a right pain in the arse. I actually pushed so hard on one of the heads that the hair fell off! Good thing I had plenty of spares, but it was still kind of a bummer. The ball peg is really wide and not long enough, in my opinion. Not sure why they went that route instead of the more post-like peg from the 2017 version.

Got everything moving now. The balloons are a bit too heavy so the hand keeps flopping over, but it will be workable on my shelf.

Had that problem too. The one part of the figure you want to be stiff is the balloon-carrying hand! I resolved it by having very short strings above the hand and playing around with it until it held in place. Felt a bit like trying to crack a safe.

Yeah, as long as I have the balloon strings about 1/3 above the hand, 2/3 below the wrist seems able to hold the weight.

Overall I think NECA knocked it out of the park with this release. I only wish NECA included an additional balloon gripping left hand for even more display options.

I also would have liked it if NECA made the paper boat out of plastic. I give them points for realism, but actual paper just isn't going to last. They did the same thing with the hat paper airplane that came with the Planet of the Apes Series 2 Zira figure.

I really want to grab two of this release, but I have a feeling that NECA is going to announce another variant soon.

I'm sorry, but how can anyone take that version of Pennywise seriously as a demon? He just looks way too silly and stupid.

I know NECA did a fantastic job on recapturing Curry's likeness from that version, but I just don't see how people were ever scared of him.

You clearly did not watch the movie growing up.

SpasticPlastic 11-04-2018 03:16 PM

I watched it as it originally aired. I was 12 or so and I thought the scariest thing was Bill's crazy mullet/ ponytail thing. I had read the book beforehand and was severely underwhelmed with the series. Pennywise was ok, but not nearly creepy enough, in my opinion. In fact, I recently rewatched it, and my first impression holds up. I think it suffered mightily from being on network TV.

Nope, but I've seen clips from it and I just don't think he is remotely threatening. I mean he does the stupid Prince Albert can joke and follows it up with a stupid annoying laugh. That isn't scary, that's dumb.

I'll probably actually sit down and watch it after the second half of the new one comes out, but moreso just for the sake of it rather than because I care about it.

I found the original Pennywise to be creepy. Mainly because he’s so sarcastically cheerful, with the occasional glimpses of his malevolent nature.

The new film is clearly a superior version, but I still think original Pennywise was more unsettling than the 2017 Scooby Doo-voice CGI jump scare update.

wait a second, so you make a comment about the original pennywise without even seeing the original IT movie? your comment is invalid then...

I don't need to watch a movie to know he looks dumb.

He's supposed to be Flagg's jester. I don't see Curry's clown having any sort of relationship with Flagg.
