She-Ra figures?

I'm really enjoying the new She-Ra cartoon despite having never been into MOTU much as a kid.

I saw the Super 7 figures and they were pretty meh, so I was wondering if there was word of anything else? This is a line I'd LOVE to get a 4" Army Builder type line.

I like both the classic and new She-Ra designs(though I prefer the new designs for the other chars as they have more variety), they both have positives and negatives for me, so is there a decent 4" classic She-Ra?

Dr Kain 11-14-2018 12:52 PM

I'll be amazed if the show lasts more than two seasons, so I wouldn't expect to see toys to happen.

You'd be surprised - Voltron is still going, and this potentially has more to draw from. It also got a lot of toys, though not sure how well they're selling.

Relena Warcraft 11-14-2018 02:04 PM

I seriously question why they didn't just opt to roll them into the MOTU Classics line.

joefan76 11-14-2018 02:11 PM

The only 4” classic she-ra figure I know of is the super 7 SDCC reaction figure it’s ok but doesn’t have a cape.

I'm only three episodes in, but it's been a lot of fun so far. I love the beautiful backdrops and am delighted to see they also subscribe to the "grab someone and squish their face to make your point" method of discourse. Kinda hoped they'd go a different route with Hordak and make him a bit more charismatic, though? Maybe that gets better.

The Super 7 figures ... are not great. They didn't make toys for Voltron until they saw that demand was there, so the best I can offer is to let them know! I really want a Glimmer. And Catra.

hasbroherofan 11-14-2018 02:39 PM

This thread should be fun while it's open.

And yes it'd be great if they made some figures for this.

Voltron was good though. In fact, it's been the best iteration of Voltron ever.

Also, Voltron was preplanned for 78 episodes.

It actually is.

So yes, I'm sure they'll go ahead and make the toys. (I'm remember they already showed off some basic figures for She-Ra and Catra, and I'm sure there will be some more.)

kylactus 11-14-2018 08:16 PM

If it fails, it will be because there is no advertising. WHY is this the first time I’m hearing about this? Where does it air? Are the designs at least farmilliar, or did they go all ninja turtley with it and make some bizarre teen titans doodle sketch bullshit clone? If it’s any good I’m in. Hell if enough people like it it might roll into the whole MOTU universe, even a new toy line.

Maybe if you believe 12 year olds can actually defeat an evil wizard who rules the world with an empire.

How can She-Ra even exist in this world without He-Man?

If I had a problem with out there concepts I probably wouldn't be watching cartoons. Or collecting superhero action figures.

kylactus 11-14-2018 10:14 PM

Her only interaction with he man was useing him to explain to her, her origin. They just had the sword do it... kind of a Superman vibe to the origin story twist, but not bad. All the other key elements are there, even Eternia, so we can assume the MOTU characters exist in this universe. So I found it on Netflix, not bad I’m on episode 5. I think it’s geared to a younger crowd, so some of the banter is a bit... immature, but it is well written. If I was a kid I would have loved it, but as an adult im digging it for what it is. as cornball as it sounds the only thing I missed from the original is the PSA at the end of each episode. Without those this new generation is going to grow up doin drugs, starting forest fires, and never knowing the true power of friendship!

PS., her she ra design has a real heavy sailor moon resemblance.

Either this is an admittedly funny joke post, or someone's new to fiction.
Because kids have been saving fictitious worlds for as long as we've had fiction. And I'm only three episodes in, but we definitely see what appears to be another pod carrying another baby careening into an entirely different planet. (Eternia)

kollekxon 11-14-2018 11:52 PM

My kids have watched most of the "old" He-Man and She-Ra shows. They liked them. We all tried this new version of She-Ra. I've watched 3 episodes and stopped. I hated it.
My oldest thinks it sucks and my youngest thinks its great.

I just cant get behind the changes made to these character's. I don't care about how they are drawn -this style is OK, but what bugs me most is the changes to the character's overall appearance and their demeanor. I see it as another crappy attempt to capitalize on an 80's property.

Edit: just wanted to add that even in episode 1, that Adora as a character doesn't make sense.
She does Fantastic in the training room to the point that she's overpowered. Her team are failures, why bother having them - what gives? Glimmer can teleport with Bow earlier, but isn't able to get herself and the others away from the insect creature. Just so they can accidentally find the entrance? Then for me there is the issue with these Princesses - Plural mind you - are these evil people. What so there's no dictionary. Also whats with the Sword.... I better stop.

Brownfinger 11-15-2018 12:07 AM

People... do remember that their beloved 80's cartoons were made to sell toys, right? Like, those were 22 minute long toy commercials. Art is fantastic, but you need to make money so that you can continue to create that art. It's not a charitable enterprise. Based on the reaction that a lot of dudes seem to have about these characters not being sultry any more, it seems to me that any success this show might have is not going to hinge upon cashing in on their nostalgia. I doubt they're watching.

I like tall, glamorous women, too. And I liked She-Ra when I was a kid. But maybe they wanted a little more substance this time around.

If I had to offer fair criticism, sometimes the banter does feel a bit... basic. A line here or there could be cleaned up. My favorite cartoons when I was growing up were the ones that didn't simplify things or talk down to kids. Beast Wars, Gargoyles, shows like that. If it's a cartoon they like, kids will adapt and pick up the things they need to understand it better along the way. That's how it was with me, anyway.

That's probably a good idea.
Yikes.

The show bends over backwards to explain to the audience that using their brand of magic in excess exhausts the user until they can recharge.
That's why she's unconscious in the air after teleporting them at one point. It's a risk.

lordbest 11-15-2018 01:48 AM

I binged the first six or seven episodes this afternoon. It's fantastic, far better than the original MotU and She-Ra cartoons while still remaining faithful to what made them special.

I honestly feel sorry for the people who are determined to hate this, they are missing out on a great cartoon. But ultimately they don't matter.

Fairly sure Mattel already said they were working on toys for it, too. They said as much at Powercon but they weren't ready to show them.

Jeddostotle7 11-15-2018 05:09 AM

I'm really interested in this show, and need to get around to watching it. However, I honestly hope if they make figures that they aren't 6 inch because as much as I'd like to collect them if I like the show, I do not need another line to start collecting. I would not be able to stop myself.

I do hope they show a couple MOTU characters at some point; I'm interested to see how they'd redesign He-Man in this style.

Dr Kain 11-15-2018 08:43 AM

So are there any pictures of Hordak, Leech, Mantenna, and Grizzlor yet? All I can find are Cattra, Scorpina, and a not even close to terrifying looking Shadow Weaver.

That's fantastic news.
Getting a little bit further into the show after work, and it's increasingly better. Add Sea Hawk's name to the list of figures that I want.

BagJo 11-15-2018 06:20 PM

I loved the 2000's He-Man reboot (and the original obvs), so I'll have to check out this new She-Ra

kollekxon 11-15-2018 06:25 PM

You should check this out. However, its nothing like the 2000s He-Man reboot.
I will not be supporting the toy line or anything else that comes from this show.
