Wonder Woman 1984 - Golden Armor Wonder Woman by Hot Toys

This is impressive. There are likely a few details missing at this point, but the overall sculpt and figure look great and a notable improvement over the JL and BvS figures. The one worrying element, other than the massive wings without a proper stand to support them, is the removable helmet instead of a separate portrait. That's going to cause some problems.

Sctt 05-22-2020 09:56 AM

With all of the delays, this may be the first Hot Toys figure that comes out when the movie does.

dukefett 05-22-2020 10:04 AM

The headsculpt is excellent, I just question putting this up for preorder 5 months before the movie comes out. Is she going to wear this for 3 minutes or a lot? Unless I was in love with the character I wouldn't preorder before seeing the movie almost no matter what.

Shops and stuff will have to have put their orders in way before the movie comes out, they're in a weird position because maybe this would have sold well with positive reception of the movie, but how are they going to know that?

Comments like these always come off as stupid and entitled. Who cares how long it takes to make the figure? You want some rushed piece of garbage McFarlane has you covered.

If Hot Toys spent less time trying to catch the "hype train" and more time focusing on high quality figures from previously released films this wouldn't be an issue. You're right, this is all trailer based, this could be one look in one scene for five minutes (I compare these scenarios to Anakin swinging two lightsabers in Episode II for 10 seconds). But this is what HT does, so after they sucker you into buying this one they'll do one that's actually based on the film and not trailer clips (see Endgame Thanos & "Battle-Damaged" Endgame Thanos or Armored Batman & "Battle-Damaged" Armored Batman for more info).

It's no secret their best figures are the ones that are based off of already released films. You have the time to put together the right sculpts and get the right accessories so you only need to buy it once. This is not one of those situations.

Even if this armour only appears in the movie for 5 seconds, I must say that the design is quiet awesome. Even the Iron Studio one of this version looks quiet stunning. If I were into the 1/6 scale farticulated figures, I would go for this one on just the design alone :)!

EvilMonkeyPope 05-22-2020 02:15 PM

Now how is Hawkgirl going to stand out in the DC movieverse?

Freekazoo 05-22-2020 03:19 PM

$300 for the normal and $360 for the deluxe.

I may be done with Hot Toys apart from the Arkham line. The Batman forever figures are probably going to be similarly expensive if they are put up for order.

And comments like these reek of your insecurity. I was simply pointing out that Hot Toys come out well after the movies. There was zero anger or entitlement in that comment other than what you projected onto it which is quite revealing about you. Have a good weekend.

Jesus Christ, calm down. The original comment was just remarking on how circumstances and delays allowed this figure to come out the same time as the movie.

warmachine6 05-23-2020 03:34 AM

if they release that head sculpt on a non-armoured wonder woman, i might get it, though varies on the price

deecee4 05-23-2020 06:11 AM

Absolutely stunning figure. I wonder if Alex Ross is getting any kind of compensation for this design.

Could be wrong, but I think DC probably owns the rights since he was probably paid at the time he drew the design. So he probably gets nothing.

I find this comment bewildering, because to me there's almost no resemblance to Ross's design. All the Greco-Roman military costume elements -- even / especially the key ones specific to Wonder Woman, like the greaves, sash and skirt -- have been specifically, selectively discarded and replaced with a kind of messy, nondescript, segmented gold-painted Predator-esque bodysuit. The only thing they didn't mess up is the helmet. I don't want this. I would love to have seen them do Alex Ross's design.

The head sculpt is outstanding, though.

It's very clearly based on Ross' design but with their own spin on it-like they've been doing for every comicbook costume adapted for film, tv, etc.

Skoob 05-30-2020 06:45 PM

The "very clearly" part baffles me. To me, this costume barely even qualifies as being distinctively Wonder Woman. Evidently, different costume elements stand out for you. Since it makes you happy, I'm happy for you.

Wonder Woman 1984 - Wonder Woman 1/6 Scale Figure by Hot Toys

Looks great. Love the brighter colors. While I do understand the "darker, grittier take on superheroes" of modern movies, I do love when a few movies throw caution to the wind and make the heroes bright and colorful.

Dolemite 07-23-2020 08:06 AM

Likeness is off. Eyes/nose area is good but the face/jaw is waaay too full. Gal's face is much more angular.

the plastic hair makes me want to get it just to replace the BvS one I have with the awful "real rooted hair" The doll hair on these things are a pain in the butt to manage )unless you're big into conditioning them regularly with gel to keep it from going frizzy

You mean to tell me you don't sit on the couch and brush your doll's hair and apply conditioner as you watch "Mamma Mia," and "My Big Fat Greek Wedding?"
