I'm not as big of a Wonder Woman fan as I probably should be... but between this and yesterday's stellar Mezco reveal, I think I'll be adding some Diana to my collection.

Nice Wonder Woman, but not Gal Gadot Wonder Woman.

I don't know what it is about Gal Gadot, Figuarts did Harley Quinn, Black Widow and even Scarlet Witch really well resembling the actresses that portrait them, but somehow, they just can't get Gal Gadot right.

ludovicotek 05-28-2020 07:31 AM

This looks fantastic!

Not into having facial resemblance in figures, but this one does look more like Jennifer Connelly than Gal Gadot.

I think the simple reason for the difficulty might be that there are many well known faces within only small variations of her own. So if they are even slightly off, you probably get one of those ones, and not the one you want.

The likeness looks spot on to me. It's always impressive when they can pull that off in this scale.

Tony_Bacala 05-28-2020 12:00 PM

Yeah, I am in the "that's on point" camp here. Almost none of the figures, statues, etc of Gal Gadot Wonder Woman look like her. This is one of the closest, IMO. Perfect, no, but pretty good.

I'd have to disagree. Connelly has more of a rectangular face shape, flatter brows, thinner lips, more prominent chin and jawline, and there's a difference of bridge to the nose and of course eyes. Those are very minute slight differences in details. Think this is the best sculpt for Gadot we could get for this scale and quite arguably for all other scales. That being said, I worry about the hair getting in the way for articulation. Sort of glad I can quit my hunting for a 3rd party Gadot head sculpt purchase. But we will see when it is in hand.

The likeness is much better than the Justice League one. I think I might have to upgrade.

Agree with Ace. When I saw that pic, I was like, "That's her." It's a spot-on likeness. Doesn't look like Connelly to me at all. Hopefully, it's not just skilled photography and lighting. Otherwise, I'm impressed.

I wonder if MAFEX will do a new one which is very likely though, if in the normal outfit or the kingdom come armour

I think it depends on which particular angle/photo you look at it from. In the head on shot, she looks more Connelly, or to be more accurate, less Gadot.

However, I think the problem/phenomenon with these sculpts in general is that it depends on what features registered in a persons mind when they saw the face of the person. While I see Connelly because of certain features I weighed differently when seeing the faces of those persons, another like Ace will see it as impossible because of some other feature that registered in his mind when he saw Connelly. To him, every feature that his mind registered to identify Gadot will be checked with this figure, while for me and the commenter before me, it won’t.

That is why I personally try to stay away from wanting the figure to look like the person. Even the actual person can look a little like someone else at the right angle, proper lighting and so forth. This is why for me, as long as they don’t make it look odd (like the female head sculpts we used to get from Western action figures sometime ago, I think they are good enough!

Yeah, I've been on a Marvel Figuarts binge lately, and I'm really impressed by what Bandai's been able to do at this scale. Sure there are clunkers, but I look at a fig like Scarlet Witch and I'm really impressed.

I never really cared about likeness before, especially for a 6-inch figure. But this fig looks too good. For DC, I usually stick with comic-inspired figures, but I may have to make an exception here.

Same, I like the comic inspired stuff most, but man this is so good. The Scarlett was great too! I realllly need to conserve to buy all the figs I “have to have”. I’m making this exception.
