Gyms are still closed but I’ve been sweating to the oldies and dealing my meals with this guy.
You can get your own Richard Simmons figure this Fall.

Surprising announcement for sure. But with how well the Golden Girls sold, I'm not too shocked they're mining other popular 80's icons. It's a pretty low risk release. The clothing fabrication is relatively cheap, and the only real new pieces are the portraits. If they had a freelancer (like Trevor Grove) work on them, then they're not even taking away their in-house resources to work on it.

It's actually something I'm surprised Mego didn't get to first.

Cobra1 06-18-2020 07:38 PM

So.... anyone actually planning on buying this?

Mogwai 06-18-2020 07:45 PM

Cobra1, yes! I am pre-ordering this for my mother. It will be the first action figures she’s ever owned.

ThorOdinson123 06-18-2020 07:56 PM

well not for me it did make me laugh. I just hope someday NECA can get Mr Rogers likeness from the Fred Rogers Company. I want a Mr Rogers with cloth cardigan sweater and the like.

Dragasses 06-18-2020 09:37 PM

I think that's pretty neat.
definitely an icon of my childhood.
always super positive, and helped a lot of people with their perception of themselves.
not to mention that likeness is dead on.
If I still collected anything in that scale, I would probably order.

OriginalFire 06-18-2020 10:08 PM

A Mr. T figure would have been cooler, but oh well.

metalalchemist 06-18-2020 10:25 PM

Anyone knows what happened with their Conan license? Would be great if they retook those figures, add articulation, etc.
Specially now that super7 is basically destroying those XD

Comedian 06-19-2020 04:03 AM

I never knew I needed this. I need this.

deecee4 06-19-2020 05:32 AM

Not something I'd be interested in owning but looks like a really fun figure. Won't be long till they're making Paul Lynde, Charo and Mummenschanz figures.

Yes, absolutely!

No. No one will buy this.

Golden Girls sold because it's a popular show that's still running in syndication. Richard Simmons was just a kitschy oddity who hasn't been relevant in decades. I can't imagine toy collectors being big enough fans to want to own this and anyone under the age of 30 wouldn't even know who the fuck he is.

If NECA did the legwork this actually could sell well though! People that remember Sweatin' to the Oldies would buy this as an impulse purchase... If anyone other than toy collectors stopped by the NECA section at Target, and if it wasn't gonna have an MSRP of 30 bucks. I get that that's what NECA can afford to sell it at, but when actual factual MEGO's are in the same store for just 10 bucks, people are gonna pass. Another idea is for NECA to try and get their stuff into places like Spencer's and Hot Topic, I can't imagine how much they'd make from selling horror Ultimates there!

dukefett 06-19-2020 07:42 AM

NECA posted something yesterday about a figure release out of left field. This is definitly aimed at people who don't collect, it's fine, it's a MEGO, this didn't take up a spot of something I was going to get.

Sean C 06-19-2020 08:07 AM

If it's successful, they can make Robot Richard Simmons.

Thanks. I wasn't sure I had the age range quite right.

Simply put Richard was an eccentric exercise guru from the 80's and 90's famous for sweatin to the oldies

Now we wait for mrburns evil robotic richard simmons :D

Dolemite 06-19-2020 11:21 AM

How is NECA wasting plastic on this shit when I've been waiting forever for them to make a retro Dr. Phibes? Or ANY Vincent Price character?

Ultra Seven 06-19-2020 11:46 AM

Not enough of a market for figures based on Carpenter’s “The Thing,” they said. Needed to be viable for mass retail, they said. But this, there’s definitely enough of a market for this.

At this point I'm pretty sure "no market for it" means "we were unable to get the rights for whatever reason".
